Trouble Creating/Viewing/Printing Songbook

I have followed the directions (over and over) and have attempted to read through all of the threads on here...

My problem is that when I attempt to view the songbook and print it, I am not getting anything!

I have about 900 songs in my database so far (takes so long to download cd's one by one). I have gone to "Tools"..."Build Songs Database" and let that run. The source folder is the default: C:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Songs and the Destination Folder is the default "Hoster\Databases\"

Then, when I go to "SongBook" and pick my fields...Click on "create" it says "New Song Book Created with 884 entries"

I then go to "Select Viewer" and go under "Browse" and point to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Winword.exe and click "OK"

Then go to "View Song Book" and Microsoft Word opens up giving me an error message "The directory name is not valid. (C:\Program Files\...SongBook.rtf)" and when I click OK, Word opens...but the page is blank.

Ughhh....Have done this several times. Have tried wordpad instead and no luck.....

why dont you just go to the hoster folder and open it ??

i realize you're the king of one liners but could you please clarify what you mean when you say "just open the hoster file folder." i am having the same trouble as tonysjungle. just for an experiment i opened hoster and selected "open" under the "file" heading but did not find a songbook to open.

Double Click on My Computer on your desktop then double click on C: Drive. Then double click on the folder Program Files. Find Micro Technology Unlimited then double click on it and find Hoster then double click on it. Next find the folder called Songbook and double click on it. You will see a file named songbook. If you double click on it it should open in either Word or Wordpad.

unfortunately i have followed this routine several times and have never seen the songbook file that is supposed to be located there. this has left myself and others baffled for months because i definitely have songs imported into hoster--a total of five cds which i can browse through when i open hoster. i have created songbook over and over but cannot find it in the file you speak of. let me tell you what i do have when i locate hoster under "program files" and subsequently "microtechnology unlimited":
{482B (etc.--it goes on like this but maybe i shouldn't share this whole number)

...but no songbook. when i select databases it shows an Access program file titled "Bucket.mdb. but again no songbook. i am connected always to the internet if that makes any difference at all.

This is really strange. I'm getting the same sort of thing on my vista machine.

I created a songbook and tried to open in Wordpad (the default viewer) and I got the same error msg as you. I then selected Winword as my viewer using pretty much the same path as you. This time it opened no problem. I closed Word and went to the Hoster folder where it should be and I could not find it.
When I did a search for it, I got shortcuts to both the songbook folder and songbook file but when I click either of them it says it can't find the file.
The search function said the folder and file were in an appdata folder (which I've been discovering is more of the vista hidden folder security crap), when I hover my mouse over the shortcuts I get the yellow balloon message saying it's located in the Hoster folder where it's supposed to be.
I can find it in the start/recent items folder but again when I click on it, it can't find the file (Vista hid it so well that even Vista can't find it).

The only way I can open it again is to manually open Word and find the file in Words recent doc list.

I'll check this out on my XP machines tomorrow (later today), but I 'm guessing that 99% of this is due to Vista's overbearing security - If anyone knows how to turn it off I'd appreciate it.

I am not positive Sam as I don't have a Vista machine to check this out on but I do remember during testing that this showed up. It is a security setting and it is Vista saying, this file was created by this program so only it is allowed to access it. I'll do some research today and see if I can find a way to turn that off.

I was having the same problem...the way to solve this (assuming you are using VISTA...is that when you see these files...up above them you'll see an option for COMPATIBILITY FILES...when you click on this button, more folders will appear. I don't understand what that means or what that does, but I know it works!

When in doubt, try reading the manual. It tells in the second paragraph where the file is created, and it is always create there.

Except... it appears that VISTA may be saving it somewhere else. Since Vista is new, we don't have enough experience on it to say if it is storing it somewhere other than were we have programmed to create it.

Try this method (below) and you should be able to find exactly where Vista put your songbook.rtf file. I would do step 4 also just so it looks under every rock.
As has been stated above, Vista does hide those files from you that it deems as program data files and assumes that you have to run the program to access them. The songbook file isn't one that requires Hoster to look at or print it, but apparently Vista thinks it is and so hides that folder.

Search everywhere.

Usually, your searches only include files that are indexed. The index improves the efficiency of your searches by keeping track of file names and important file properties for most of the files stored on your computer. If you want to find files that are not in the index, such as files outside of your personal folder or system files, you can change the search location. 1. Open Search by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Search. 2. Click Advanced Search 3. Click the Location list, and then click Everywhere. 4. If you want to search for hidden and system files, select the Include non-indexed, hidden, and system files check box.

if it isn't my songbook hidden under a rock! thanx. so here's my next question--i notice that my songbook is by title; does creation of a songbook supercede those that came before it, or are there dozens of songbooks that i've created over the months floating around in the ether somewhere? next question--i would like to remove the five cdg's that i imported into hoster to the trash. do i just run the same search routine and search for "songs.kma?" when i find them, how do i get them to the trash? thanx

If you want to keep separate songbooks, ie. by artist and by title. You will have to create one, go to the file and rename it, then create the second. As Hoster only writes one file....songbook.rtf.
