building song data base
On my last Hoster upgrade to 3.313, it stated I needed to " build song data base. Whenever I had added discs to my computer before, I just went to " Songbook " and added then there. When I built my song data base, it corrupted or, I had some corrupted files pop into my songbook. Is this normal? The guy who built my computer said he would look at it to see where the corrupted files were. Once he finds them, and cleans it up, and I repair/replace the songs that were lost, will I have to " build a song data base" again? I never had any problems until I did this.

Has anyone read this page? I did ask a question. I know most people read the most recent, or the highlighted questions. If I " build songs to database" again, will it possibly repair itself? Or will it make it worse? I would like to know, if someone knows the answer. I have only "build songs to database" once since I first got Hoster. Is it something I really need to do?

I'm not sure why you would have needed to rebuild the database when upgrading, unless it was a good sized jump (from 2.xx to 3.313 for instance) but that is pure speculation. Soon after I finished importing all my cdgs 3+ years ago I came across 3 corrupt kma's that required reimporting. I don't recall how they appeared, just that I found all of them at the same time. I deleted and reimported them and haven't seen another one since. You said you'd never had a problem untill you rebuilt your database. Had you played those songs before? I'm just thinking that they may have been there this whole time and you didn't discover it because you had never rebuilt your database. Building the database does nothing to your KMA's, it only reads the information. Much like if you open a folder and look at the names of the files without actually opening a file. Rebuilding the database won't cause any harm. As a beta tester I've deleted and rebuilt mine a bazillion times (slight exageration ![]() If you need more help you can email me your number and I'll try and help best I can. Sam

Using Tools menu, Build Songs Database command is safe. The original data is stored in the header of each KMA file. Unless these are damaged, the data is always available. Building the Databas again simply reads the KMA headers and uses the data found there.
If KMA files are being damaged, it is NOT a released version of Hoster doing it. In that case, your computer is damaged, OR... you have bad memory that is causing Hoster's code to malfunction when running in that bad RAM. |
