Maybe your brother's machine is not reading CDG-Karaoke right using CD-R MUSIC format media. Try a plain CD-R disc.

I know this doesn't sound logical, not even to me, but if everything else is o.k., it must be something..... who knows

I have been told there are some (brands) karaoke machines that will not play a copy of a cgd. I don't remember the reason. Most karaoke machines will play microstudio disks.

That makes more sense than what I said.

Wonder if the machine is programmed not to read a CDG copy, or if the machine just won't play any copy. Have you tried making a copy of a regular audio cd and playing it on your brother's machine?

Hello All,
Most older machines, even expensive ones(better?), had to grow with the market and as CDR and CDRW discs became more available and cheaper, the features were altered to cater for the public.
Older DVD players and recorders also suffered from the industry lagging behind
and even now some expensive machines don't have all the facilities everyone would expect today.
I've seen very cheap DVD players (£18/$32) capable of playing every kind of disc thrown at them including CDG, with programming.
It's only the same as MTU's software not being written to include all CDG players around.
I recently bought a Plextor which does play CDG's but is still not compatible with MTU software, because it doesn't have the codes written for it.
So the beautiful black drive, which goes with my kit has egg all over it
Regards from across the pond.
Garry
