Wav volume mysteriously gets set to zero

It happens on a rack computer I built for a friend of mine but never on my personal unit. Yep, the Wav volume mysteriously gets set to zero. The first time it happened he called me in a state of panic. So I rushed to his show. After checking all the wiring and stuff (cause there was no sound) we figured it out. It still happens from time to time but now we know what to look for. And I haven't figured out how to make it happen.

(As far as I remember its been happening since 3.06)

Looks like we (MTUSUPPORT) were posting at the same time. so I was able to edit this post after submitting.

FYI, he typically does not change the Wav volume. But I'll check out what you said.

Hmm..Who would have thought it saves the setting upon opening?

Bryan,

Looks like you cracked it. I went into the volume contol from the control panel with Hoster closed, and sure enough the wave balance was down to zero.

I reset it and opened Hoster, and we are back Rock n Rollin'

The only slight worry still is that I would have had no reason to ever mess with the wave balance, so I'm not sure how the problem came up in the first place. I'll keep and eye on it and see if it happens again.

Thanks for the help

Tom

The question that poppped into my mind when I read Bryan's post was pretty much the same.

How would the control get to zero in the first place ?

Good Question. I'm not really convinced yet either, because we set the wave volume to max and never touch it. Well see.

(Off subject: I have to say it. The mods in 3.12 to the most used -1 keychange are awsome!!!

Just tried loading a few more HD files, keeping a close eye on what was going on.

Loaded them disc by disc, checking after each disc that Hoster played each of the tracks.

Got as far as the third disc (Legends Series LG 039), and for no particular reason when I tried to play through the tracks, the wave volume dropped for track 4.

The loading of HD files is doing something to that Registery setting. I don't know if anyone else is loading HD files, are you getting the same result?

Before gigging I would suggest checking the control panel to make sure the setting is at max before opening Hoster. The problem seems to be confined to loading the tracks.

Any ideas?

Tom

I think I have identified the direct cause.

When importing HDD disc, not all the tracks load successfully into Hoster.
Example
  1. show as ERROR when you play them in a playlist
  2. there will be sound with a black screen
  3. graphics may be badly disrupted.
I am importing all tracks, and checking them though the edit songs window. If they do not play I delete them.

Once a song is deleted (though not in all cases) the wave volume control is being reset to minimun, and there is no sound.

On closing Hoster and resetting it in the Contol Panel, the successfully imported tracks will play fine once Hoster is re-opened.

That's the problem.... now what's the answer?

A few of us: were ( are ) having trouble loading ANY cdg directly from the hard drive, but have been un-able to track down the problem. Could be that this is related somehow ??

Are the files you're having trouble with in CDG, BIn, mp3+g, or zip format ? More information would be very useful.

This is not beyond the realm of possibilities, for instance: If you are running winamp (and presumably other audio programs) regardless of whether hoster is open or closed and you change the volume on winamp while it is playing you will change the wave slider as well. If you turn the volume slider all the way down your wave slider too will go all the way to zero.

I'm not saying this is the cause, just pointing out that other programs can effect the wave slider even if the user sets it to max and never touches it.

The WinAmp volume is independent of the WAV slider. Check it out.

That is partly correct.

The Win Amp volume control has no effect on the .WAV setting, but
the .WAV slider does affect Win Amp volume.

Ok, if people are using the WinAmp volume control, it's not going to effect the Wav slider, which would have to happen if Hoster was to be reopened and subsequently a new Wav setting saved.

Isn't the wav volume one of those "set it and forget it" adjustments?

Selmer,
Can you Email me one of these "Bad" mp3+g files, that show no graphics? This way I can try what you are doing and see what happens. Also when you state you are playing the file, is this in the Edit Songs dialog or the Playlist?
