No Singers name display. HELP!!!

Hi mtu community, I have a problem that I can't seem to get fixed and I am very frustrated. I just exchanged one of my systems with my kj so I could upgrade it. This kj does not like the singers name display so he somehow made it disappear and not by turning it off. I have the selection checked to have the name display on but there is none. He told me that he just hid it behind the screen that displays the words but nope it's not there. I have tried changing my screen resolution to see if it popped out anywhere but it doesn't. I upgraded from 2.219 to 3.110 and that didn't work, I did the upgrade option and the fresh hoster install option and neither worked. I also tried restoring my computer back as far as it could go which was June 2004 and it still isn't there. Can someone please help me?

I just picked up a show 5 nights a week at the same place and the singers were spoiled by there old kj writing all the singers on a white board. I was so stoked that I was gonna be able to use one of hosters many awesome features to impress these people. And i'll be damned if i'm writing on a white board. I am so close to a full format and restore but don't want to. Theres got to be something! Thanks for the help in advance y'all

make sure you have a tv hooked up so you can see it out there, if you cant find it by moving your pointer off the screen and trying to drag it back. he might have collasped it to a thin line that you cant see. Bob

Yes I was thinking that he may have shrunk it so small that I can't see it. The worst part is I looked all over both screens and pulled and dragged from all edges and corners of both screens and looked for any dots or unusual lines and tried to drag and open and see if I could find it. No luck.
Thanks Bob. Any other idea's? There has got to be a way to completely remove hoster and all of it's components from windows and do a fresh install. I really don't want to format and restore windows.
Thanks

We've had a few folks who either shrunk it down till it disappeared or pushed it off the bottom and it never reappeared

There is a way of going into the registry and resetting Hoster persistance settings. which might fix it. I found step by step instructions when I did it one time.I'll have to look around see if I can find them again.

After a little digging this is what I found.
BUT FIRST: PLEASE NOTE I am not a computer expert and am leary of offering advice about messing with the registry. Please keep this in mind before making any changes.

This is copied word for word from another thread to fix a different but similiar problem.
Quote:
Click the Windows Start button, Run option, type in "regedit" and press the Enter key. In the viewer that appears, scroll down to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Micro Technology Unlimited > Hoster > Default

Delete the found Default folder, which holds all your persistence settings. I believe you can rename it to "defaultold" to allow you to restore it later, retaining all your persistence settings.:
I don't recall if I was able to start Hoster after making these changes or if I had to upgrade/reinstall to get the factory default settings. But I do recall EVERYTHING about Hoster had to be reset and resized to get it back to the way I like it.

Hopefully MTUSUPPORT will chime in and opine on whether I've given sound advice or not.

Sam

When you do a database rebuild what is the path to your KMA files in the SONG SOURCE FOLDER? The reason I ask is if KMA folder is within the Hoster folder, you better think twice about removing the Hoster folder, and should probably open the Hoster folder and manually delete everything except the folder containing the KMA files, or you could find yourself importing everything again.

If the path to the KMA folders looks something like this c:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Songs........You better watch out.

If it is something like mine, which is c:\Hoster Songlist........it is not in the Hoster folder and will not be affected.

Ok guys, sounds like some good options to try. So george as far as what your saying. I will move my kma files and then delete all the folders in c:programs/microtechnologies/hoster? If I do that and do a fresh install of hoster should that give me everything as if I were running it for the first time? Then I just rebuild my database?

I have used the registry edit to fix a problem I had before and had good results. It was a problem that I had with the search option not coming up. It fixed it that time. Maybe this one will work.

Ok I am gonna give this a shot. Before I do however, will I need mtu to reset my registration numbers? I can't afford to be without a system for a day and I don't believe they work on weekends. I thought they had fixed this problem with the registration to where ut could recognize the address of the port the computer is using?

If I could get a little feedback on this from admin. it would make me feel much more comfortable to start this endevor.
You know I understand it's probably not very common that this problem occurs however if you can shrink a window so small it disappears, I think that is a major flaw. You would think mtu could add a return hoster to all default settings or something.
Don't get me wrong, my kj was the idiot who did it. That #@%* is fired! hehe

Thanks for you alls help, and I am still taking advice if there is more out there.

If I'm not mistaken, the ability to shrink the SND screen to a non-recoverable state was corrected a couple of versions or so ago. I have been trying to lose mine since you posted and cannot make it totally disappear.

I can shrink it down to a barely visible dot, and no more. I can recover it by clicking and dragging from that dot. If I don't do that, when I shut Hoster down and re-open it, the SND is back to normal size.

I am wondering though, if the SND window isn't lurking behind the lyrics window, just as your KJ said it was. Have you tried double clicking the singer's screen to unlock it, and dragging it back over to the pc monitor so's the tv screen would be completely visible?

Yeah I have tried everything. I have dragged, clicked, and everything but kicked the **** thing =)

I am gonna go ahead and try to check the registry thing. If that doesn't work I am gonna delete the whole hoster folder minus my kma's and try a fresh install. If that doesn't work I am gonna just do a full windows format. I won't be able to do this till sunday, but I will let you all know as soon as I am done.

Many thanks,

AzKaraoke,
Here is a FAQ on how to Delete these Registry Keys. http://www.mtu.com/support/faq/faq-h...#DeleteRegKeys

This is the only way to fix this.
