You might be running out of resources when doing your back up which explains why it crashes?
No need to pull the power cord, just hold the power buttom until it shut downs which is about 5-9 seconds??? We can try to help you out on the crashes but we would need more details like: Windows? Memory? Processor? As much as you can give us... I'm sure someone here will help you out! Have Fun
