missing CD writer

I need some help. I have had trouble with Karaoke Suite 4 and my Plextor PW-W5224TA. When I first got 2.517 it would not find any cd-rw. I tried differnt ASPI drivers as was suggested in many of the post in the forum. still nothing worked.
I tried a demo copy of Microstudio 2.517 on a different machine to see if it was the drive. I did a new install of XP Pro and SP1a on a different PC (PC 2), nothing else was loaded on the PC. All went well demo Microstudio 2.517 found the drive just fine. So thats not it.
So I thought I would try a new install on my normal PC (PC 1). I repeated the same steps as with PC 2 only this time I loaded my registerd Microstudio 2.517 and nothing else up to this point. Tested Microstudio 2.517 and low and behold there was the Plextor drive. So I reload all the rest of my software (Office Pro 2003 and the like) all has been well. I even bought and installed the rest of the Karaoke Suite 4 software, everything works great.
That was a few weeks ago, now I'm back to not having any cd-rw again according to Microstudio 2.517.

Anyone with any ideas.

I would reinstall the ASPI drivers and see if they will fix your problems. The only other thing that I can think of is that something has overwritten your Motherboard chipset drivers. I would go to the manufacturers website and get the latest drivers for the Motherboard, and this should help.

Question aspi32

jthomas,

I suggest you go see in: My Computer/C/Windows/System file and try to find winaspi32.dll if you dont see it you'll need to copy & paste from your adaptec file.

Good Luck

Try reinstalling the Microstudio software using the Repair method. If this still doesn't work, then make sure that you have all the updates to your Motherboard. The specific files you are looking to update are the Chipset drivers or sometimes called the .inf files.

Thanks Bryan for your suggestions. I found that somehow the ASPI drivers are getting changed. once I reinstalled them thing are working fine.
I have moved all the karaoke software to a dedicated computer and that is all that it will be used for. maybe that will keep things a little more stable.

Thanks again,
Jay
