Steve, let me encourage you first. Microstudio 2.013 was developed under Win2000, so it will run. The three modifications you could not make were not made on our development system. Specifically, these are: 1) Auto-insert notify, 2) Write Behind Caching, and 3) Virtual Memory Settings.

We don't recommend our Karaoke clients move up to Win2000 because of its operational complexities; i.e. it is not for "general" users. I have included below what Microsoft gives to disable the Auto-Insert Notify operation. After reading the warnings below, it should scare off all but the most seasoned system integrators!

MTU does not recommend making the following changes to Windows 2000 for Microstudio. They are not required.

From Microsoft:
SUMMARY: If there is a CD-ROM changer attached to your computer, you may want to disable the Autorun (the automatic running of a compact disc or the automatic playing of an audio compact disc) feature. If the Autorun feature is enabled with a CD-ROM changer, each time a new compact disc is inserted into one of the trays, Windows will cycle through every tray in the changer.

There is no user interface option to enable or disable the Autorun feature. To enable or disable the feature, you must edit the registry. To do so, follow the steps below.

IMPORTANT: This article (from the Microsoft MSDN support site) describes how to disable the Autorun feature in Windows 2000 by editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, view the "Restoring the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help topic in Regedt32.exe. WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT or Windows 2000, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

Change the Autorun value in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom
To disable the Autorun feature, change the Autorun value to 0. To enable the Autorun feature, change the Autorun value to 1.
Restart the computer.

NOTE: The above method disables the Autorun feature completely. If you want to disable the feature on a per compact disc basis, you can hold down one of the SHIFT keys while inserting the compact disc.

Additional Information: There are two other keys that can affect this functionality:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer - For NoDriveTypeAutoRun = 0x00000095
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer - For NoDriveTypeAutoRun = 0x00000095
The correct value for each is 0x00000095 to disable AutoRun.
