If you have windows 7, while your connected to the extended screen via your vga to video converter, right click on the desktop and select screen resolution.
In the dialog where it shows the 2 screens side by side, click on no 1 screen, then look just below the 4 drop down boxes it should say "This is currently your main display" if it doesn't it will show a tick box with the words "Make this my main display" if this is what your seeing with the No1 screen selected then tick the box press apply and OK.

If your not using windows 7 or 8 let us know which windows version you have.

Other than that can't you right click on the header bar while it's on the other screen and drag it back.
