It seems that there is an issue with the Operating system, this is not the actual driver issue with the ASPI drivers. Others on here might have a better clue to this, I know that Windows 98 and ME don't have correct support for Memory over 256mb. So when you bump it up to anything over 256, it does no good, but more harm to the OS.
Your best bet is to upgrade from Windows ME to XP, since Microsoft no longer supports Windows ME.
