the sound choice problems are getting worse

It has been alluded to that playing a singers disc even though not copying it is not legal. Is this true? same question for the thumb drives. I have been getting folks coming in that have their entire collection on a thumb drive. It is beginning to get to be a pain because I only have so many usb ports and when three or four people come in with thumb drives and want to sing
" their own version" off of it it takes longer to find it and sometimes it crashes hoster . If i have used the regular search feature and then try importing with the "koke" button from a thumb drive it will crash hoster, but if i restart it and then click the "koke" button and import it that way it works fine. what is going wrong i am using xp media edition and the latest video hoster program on a toshiba satelite laptop. oh and i am not apirate sound choie has checked me out thoroughly lol and i have the reciepts to prove it lol. the legal question was precipitated by their questionaire asking if i/we use singers discs or thumdrives to play songs from. I am inferring from that that they frown on it at the minimum or it is illegal. so id like to know from fellow mtu folks if that's true, or a worry tactic

Re: the sound choice problems are getting worse

When i go to a friends show for an evening out of singing, i make a backup copy of the original owed disc of songs i want to sing. One friend has a {painful hard swallow} vocopro player that plays thumb drives, and SC disc slots like the digital cameras use. I format shift to the sc card, or thumb drive. I have asked my family attorney to do a "simple" "westlaw" search for a case that has been successfully prosecuted for karaoke graphic and music cdg format shifting from original delivered media format. He could find none, or case law.

I have read what the manu's are trying to claim on this point. But they simply don't have the case law behind them on it. I format shift, and will continue to do so untill i read where a case has been sucessfully prosectued and awarded damages. You do what you're comfortable doing, but don't lose any sleep over it. Just continue to stay legal, enjoy your hoster software, and by all means play your customers formatted disc. With all due respect, it's none of my business, or yours, where they got their songs. These are just my thoughts and views on this matter.

As musicman51 has said, you are not legally responsible for their disks or thumb drives or where they obtained the songs. By using the koke or singers disc import then no copy is retained on your computer so no piracy involved.

Re: the sound choice problems are getting worse

MTU has paid over $4,000 for legal research. Read the results here: http://www.mtu.com/support/copyright-notes.htm

Re: the sound choice problems are getting worse

Rob,
There is a program out there that can do that with ease, as well as other karaoke organizing. I don't know that I am able to list the name of said program since it is not a MTU program but if you want to message me, I will reply with the info.

Re: the sound choice problems are getting worse

We will add a "Find and Replace" feature in the Tools > Edit Songs dialog in Hoster 5.10. It is 95% done already, just didn't have time to finish it.
