Re: Unable to play or import songs
That list of CD drives is old and no longer accurate, since MTU changed the language used to communicate with the drives. With what they were using before there had to be special code added for each drive they supported to work. Now what they use is the latest standard/universal code used by all manufacturers of drives giving us a much wider selection of drives that can work. However even with that said a lot of the internal drives for laptops just will not read CDG correctly.
It is very hard to explain, but the laptop drives just are not built with the quality, power or capabilities of the full size drive.

Re: Unable to play or import songs
If it will help as far as drives goes. My Toshiba lappy says it will read karaoke cdg's..in fact it will not. My brand new genuine made in china original junk plextor drive with light scribe which i purchased from tiger direct, says it loves karaoke cdg's, and in fact, when i'm lucky enough to even get it to work, will not read a cd disc, or write light scribe.
It's very hard to find good rom drives nowadays.The toshiba lap tops are notorius for testing fine..then just sitting there and clicking. Not an mtu software problem in either case. Incidently, my mtu certified drive after 100's & 100's & 100's of disc through her, still just purrrs right along. ![]() |

Re: Unable to play or import songs
Thank you for the infor. I have a certified burner from MTU in my desktop which works well as long as I have Microstudio 4. or higher. I believe it is the same for Hoster. They used to sell Plextors, but I don't know why they changed. I guess I will just have to use my External Plextor 716 or the slower 8X burner in the laptop. Just can't figure out why the 24X doesn't work although it used to.

Re: Unable to play or import songs
I have a couple "Plextor" drives i purchased from mtu years ago as well. They both work great still. However, plextor today, is just not the same company. They are a repackaged "Liteon" product. Most likely why mtu dropped them as well..just plastic junk today, at least my new one is. {This is just my opinion}

Re: Unable to play or import songs
I have done all the instructions as listed by MTU for a XP install. I have installed 4.22 and made the changes suggested by MTU. Starting around version 3.2, I was unable to rip a song from a cdg that was brought up to me during a show, I have gone over all the changes made both before 4.22 and since 4.22 Hoster install and still cannot import songs via cdrom. I have also attempted to clean the lens and disc is not recognized in the cdrom drive. HELP!!!!!
Currently running XP on a Dell AMD 2.2 processor, 3g of RAM, 500g HD, 350g of Free HD left, all of my MTU products are current versions 4.xx Thanks, Brett |

Re: Unable to play or import songs
Quote:
How old is the drive? Is this a laptop or desktop computer? Sometime around version 3.3 or 3.2 MTU change from using an older language code for communicating with the drives to a more universal language. This means those drive that used the older format no longer worked. Also as stated above in this thread many laptop drives just will not work with CDG at all. MTU's test for drives in Hoster and Microstudio only tests the drive controller to see if it will support CDG and does not test the drive mechanism to make sure it can. There is no way to do this. So even if those programs report that the drives are good does not garantee that they will.

Re: Unable to play or import songs
Thanks to all of you. I have come to the conclusion that I will have to use the 8X burner for Hoster and Microstudio and the 24X dvd\cd-rw's for everything else. They work well with everything else. The 8X is just slower importing songs to your show list then the other. Really no need for further replies. Thanks again to all. Alan
