The correct installation for the Krystal board in Microeditor 5.3 is:
1. The Add New Hardware Wizard dialog will appear for the PCI Multimedia Device. 2. Click Next and it will ask where you would like to search. This does not matter because no driver will be found. 3. Click Next and it will display "Windows was unable to locate a driver for this device" 4. Click Next and it will add Krystal as the PCI Multimedia Device as an Unknown Device 5. Click Finish and Krystal is installed. The following is INCORRECT in the Microeditor 5.3.0.0 Readme.txt file: 1. The MTUMSND.VXD file is now installable as a Win9x device driver, using MTUMSND.INF as the installation file. Installing the MTUMSND.VXD as a device driver allows the interrupt assigned to the Krystal board to be shared. This was correct for an early beta version, but is not correct for the 5.3 final release. CORRECT INSTRUCTIONS - Perform the following steps to install the MTUMSND.VXD as a device driver (assuming Krystal board is already installed): 1. Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel and double-click the System icon. 2. Select the Device Manager tab and click the + by "Other devices" in the device tree to expand it. 3. Under "Other devices" select the "PCI Multimedia Device" and click the Properties button. 4. Click the Reinstall Driver button, and the Update Device Driver Wizard will appear. 5. Click Next and click "Display a list...". 6. Click Next and click "Other devices" if not selected. 7. Click Next and click "Have Disk...", then Browse and navigate to the MicroEditor installation directory. 8. Select the MTUMSND.INF file. 9. Click OK and OK again and the Wizard dialog should display "Krystal DSP Board". 10. Click Next and Next again. 11. Click OK if a "Copy Files..." dialog appears saying "Setup had trouble copying a file." 12. Click Finish to complete the device driver installation and Close the Krystal DSP Board properties dialog. If Krystal is not yet installed, shut the computer down and unplug the power cord. Install the Krystal DSP Board and turn the computer back on: 1. When the Add New Hardware Wizard dialog appears for the "PCI Multimedia Device", click Next. 2. Continue the procedure with Step 5 above.
