![]() ![]() ![]() If you buy a CDG disc from a Dealer or Distributor, NOT EBAY or the likes, and you pay $10 or higher and it is a standard silkscreened disc from one of the known producers, then you have the best chance of it being legal. I'm not a legal expert, but from the research we have paid for and I am aware of, if you have proof of purchase of your songs, and in the case of CDG Discs have the master commercial version safe at home, I cannot conceive of anyone, even SC taking you to court for any reason. Gpayne, I expect you're as legal as they come from what I have seen you post. It's those who buy a $400 HDD with 35,000 songs and Sax & Dotty's older Show Hoster (unprotected so the bootleggers use it) who should be shaking in their booths. They... are vulnerable to seeing confiscation of their gear, and visiting a Court of Law. Those who copy a friend's discs one weekend and don't own a single CDG disc behind them are going down if they are caught. Those making copies of their discs and selling them to their friends or clients are 100% illegal bootleggers! ![]() Also, those who buy more than one copy of Hoster, import the CDG Disc tracks to KMA files, then make a backup copy of the hard drive and use it on a second Hoster (or most likely their backup copy) and never buy a CDG disc for the second rig, they too are 100% ILLEGAL. Also, if MTU finds them we will terminate their license to use Hoster. There is NO ROOM for bootleggers in this Industry. Our next round of legal research is fully geared to tell you, and the business owners who hire you, what IS and IS NOT legal. There are clear definitions, and Sound Choice and Stellar are doing the Industry a grave disservice by saying EVERYTHING YOU DO IS ILLEGAL! As we did 3 years ago, we're out to debunk the lies and intimidations. There are LEGAL and ILLEGAL actions. Frankly, in most cases just using common sense will keep you safe. Buying a disc with songs for less than the $0.20 - $0.34 license fees in the USA is questionable. I was called down for saying the cutoff is $1.00 per song, and I corrected my statement. Can CAVS owners be taken to court? I doubt it seriously. However, I wouldn't bet the farm on any SCDG disc. Just my personal opinion. That's why MTU has no "converter" plans for SCDG discs. |
