Cool help with sound card

I am running Windows 2000 SP4 with all updates.

I have just reinstalled an older version of Microstudio after a couple of years (2.315).
While it used to work on my old laptop, now I receive an error that I have no sound card
installed in my computer. This is obviously wrong since the onboard SoundBlaster I have
had since 2002 still works perfectly on my desktop machine.

In spite of how illogical it was, I went out and bought a PCI SoundBlaster 5.1, in hopes of
convincing Microstudio that I did indeed have a sound card.

So, it worked for a few tries, and I was very relieved. Then, I think I had to go to Windows
Update for something. And then an hour ago when I wanted to show a friend of mine how great
Microstudio was, it threw the same error - no sound card.

I am very frustrated with this problem since my computer is correctly set up for everything,
and I even have a brand-new sound card, and still this program will not work. I have wasted
three days on this issue, and now I add insult to injury by buyiong a sound card I didn't need
in the first place.

Any help I can get on this issue is greatly appreciated.
