file quality degrades over time

Thanks to all for your suggestions. The system is relatively new - all components less than 6 months old. In general, everything appears to be working well. I do see some issue with singer's disks when they bring them in (will save to disk slightly garbled on occasion), but I figure their disks are the issue - either well used or they're frequently copies. I'll run system checks on stuff to make sure the hardware is OK. Thanks again.
