Reliabiilty in CDR writing depends on 4 things:

1. The computer installation is the most important. Microstudio comes with an extensive, but easy to follow and perform check list of modifications to make your WIndows 98 computer behave for CDR writing. If you make these changes, your computer will properly behave.

2. The CDR Media you use is the most common factor in an unreliable write operation.
If you buy the cheapest media you can find, guess what? You get what you paid for! We have heard of cheap media where 50% of them fail during a write operation. If you time is not worth anything to you, buy the cheap media. It is your choice.
MTU only recommends Mitsui CDR media to be absolutely sure. Mitsui also adds a "data shield" coating on top of the Lacquer. Other discs do not have this extra protection layer. What does it mean? SCRATCH RESISTENCE! All Karaoke users should be concerned about this because your discs are subjected to scratching!

3. The CDR Drive must be reliable. It is becoming rare today, but we do find some CDR drives don't run reliably.

4. The software must run reliably. Microstudio has been extensively tested. There are about 0.1% of our clients where it is not running reliably. At this rate, it is without question the computer installation (#1 above) that is causing the problems. Even then, it is the Play function that is causing problems, not the disc writing functions.

The time to copy is dependent on 2 things:

1. The CDROM read speed the drive actually delivers. We find some drives will only read at 2x speed, no matter what you set them to. We reject these drives in our testing. Normal read time will be under 10 minutes for a 60 minute disc.

2. The CDR write speed that you select. This drive is capable of writing at 12x (60 minute disc writes in about 6 minutes). However, you should always run a test disc to see if the Karaoke Player you will use your discs in will play a CDR disc written at 12x (or 10x, ot 4x). Sony Players will only read CDR discs written at 1x speed. Other Players that also play DVD discs usually will only play CDR discs written at 1x. Thus, even though the Plextor 12/10/32 drive can write at 12x, you may have to write at 1x speed.
