WHen you cancel in the middle of a write function it will lock up for a period of time while the process is cancelled because it will try to complete the song you are recording to disc. If you happen to stop it at the beginning of a song this could take a few minutes.
Also depending on how the drive is being controlled by the operating system this can cause a permanent lock up until you restart the computer.
