Exclamation Vista adventures- Part 1

Ok, so I get a new laptop -Sony VAIO with Core2 Duo 1.6, 2 gigs ram, 160 gig harddrive. Install my Audigy IIzs soundcard, hook everything up after the install and Hoster is working great. So I'm getting everything finalized yesterday for a party this weekend (Plan ahead!) and plug in the external monitor, get the display over there and voila! Working fine. So I start running through some songs and it sounds not-so-good. Occasional "hangs" in the songs- not noticeable on the lyrics display but you can tell it's not right. So I disable virus scanning, turn every other app. off, and still get the stutter - even after rebooting.
Plug in the other cable (Spliiter from a VGA amp) into the plasma tv and turn it on- says "Not supported in this mode". Hmm. Worked before with the other laptop.
So I found the solution - I had not set the external (secondary) monitor resolution to 800x600- it was at 1024 x768. While this worked fine on the LCD screen, the plasma didn't like it. Apparently, the LCD would display at 1024x768 but Vista did not like it. Once I set the secondary monitor to 800x600 desktop, the stuttering/hanging is gone and I'm back in business.
Thought maybe this might help someone else out.
Now if I can just get rid of the ding when clicking on one of the songs that comes up in the search window results. I keep waiting for Lurch to come out and say "You rang"?
