You did not say what operating system you were using. I have not personally had any problems and I am running Direct 9.0. You should however, create a restore point if you are using Windows XP because you can reverse the effects of the install. Sometimes, XP will create a restore point if you are doing a microsoft upgrade. Look and see if there is a restore point related to the Direct X install or maybe a restore point from the day before. If there is, do the restore and it might get you back to the conditions that existed before the install.
