Hoster.32 is correct, even for 64the bit machines. This problem almost sounds like a corrupt NVidia Video driver but can't say for sure. You might try going straight to NVidia site, down load the latest driver for your video card and install. No guarantee that will solve the problem but worth a try even though Windows indicates it is up to date. Before loading any new driver I recommend that you establish a System Restore point just incase.
Just curious, Have you attempted to play any music or video files with Windows Media Player? If so, what happened? Off to choir practice... Will check back here in a couple hours.
