I have also seen that problem occasionally with Access in Office 2003, but it has been quite a while. Upgrading to 2007 fixed it obviously because I haven't seen this since upgrading.
When you open Songbook in what? Access 2007? If you did the standard install of Office 2007, I think you need to go back and install it again but use the Custom install to add the rest of the Access items. Whatever you do do not change or save anything in the Songs.mdb file with Access as it will save it in the wrong (newer) format.
