Harry Reid CD detect issue

I moved this to a new thread.

I am using a Dell laptop with XP operating system 250 GB HD and 250GB Ramm.
As far as I can tell all other features of 4.08 are working fine other than the cd drive issue.
Looking for suggestion to fix the problem
Harry, after getting the CD to work in 3.4 do you try to detect it again in 4.08? If so, MadJim is working this same issue. He says that hitting cancel in 4.08 after detecting the drive in 3.4 seems to work. We will keep posting in this thread as this develops.

cd detect issue

First of all I would like to apologize for posting in the wrong area, I'm new to the form.
I did try opening V3.4 then going back to V4.08 and it still indicates that my cd drives are bad, however when I hit cancel and Hoster opens it will now read a disk in my internal cd drive; I do not have my external drive with me so I can't tell you if it is going to recognize it or not.
Thank you very much for the help.

At least this will do as a work-around until the real culprit is found and executed

Harry,
4.08 indicates that my CD/DVD device is bad, like yours. Hitting "Cancel" anytime you see the Select CD/DVD device window is the only fix I can find. Just concider it a Nag Screen and carry on. I don't work for MTU but I think I can safely say that this bug will be squashed very soon.

cd drive

I went back to the oldest version I had, I believe it was 3.4, opened it and had it recognize my cd drive that I use to load a disk at a show (mine is D drive) and saved it.
I then closed that version and re-opened 4.8 and hit cancel when it ask for a default drive and mine started working when I want to import/load someones disk at a show.
Prior to opening the older version and saving the (D) default drive I could not get mine to work in 4.8.
I believe the "key" is to saving the drive in the older version.
Hope this helps.
Harry

4.08 will not ask me for a default version again. I can go into the tools and retest but a cancel there does not accomplish a thing. I'm stuck in limbo

Thanks for you help

I did go back to 3.4 and made sure the drive worked fine. But when I went back to 4.08 it took me straight to the main Hoster screen, not to the drive screen like it should.

I did finally get it to work. Thanks for your help I hope there are no future problems as a result of this. Is there something that will have to be done once the fix is in?

Thanks Stu

Stu,
We'll have to wait and see how MTU chooses to handle this bug. Now that your CD/DVD device is working you should be good to go.

Glad your back on track, enjoy the software.

Jim

Folks, the main problem here for those experiencing this is for some reason the registry entries that define the drive are not getting updated. These same registry keys are used by both 3.4 and 4.08.
This is why I said to go into 3.4 and try the Detect Again button in the drive tool. If it detects it as good there and you "Save" the information, close 3.4 and then open 4.08 theoretically this should set the registry keys to show the drive as good. If this doesn't happen then for some reason Hoster isn't being allowed to change the registry.
If it works then you will not see the Set Drive window pop up at the start up of 4.08 and if it doesn't then you will still get the pop-up. However as some have discovered including MadJim if you hit Cancel when it shows a "BAD" drive, then the drive will work anyway.
MTU is looking at this and if they find a quick fix for it they will release a 4.08a and you will have to "upgrade" again.
