Not A Fan Of Hoster Right Now!!!!

As of this very moment, I feel that Hoster could quite possibly be the worst, least user friendly program I've ever encountered.

I cannot, after two days, repeated readings of the manuel, and repeated calls to tech support. . . get my mp3g and zip files imported into the program.

Trust me, I've exhausted everything.

I have several thousand files to import. Many of them are labeled differently.

Any suggestions?

Besides not understanding the manual, what seems to be the problem?

Zip files need to be unzipped & converted to mp3g. You shouldn't have any trouble importing mp3g files as long as the file names are consistent and in the manner as explained in the Manual.

Trust me, I've exhausted everything.

Any suggestions?
1. You will use the Import Songs > Import Hard Drive Files command and screen.

2. You must first pick the TYPE (either ZIP or MP3G) to use. Read the instructions around the screen.

3. You must pick the Folder where the first files are located you want to import.

4. Once this is done, the files of that TYPE from that FOLDER appear in the Files List Window. Read the instructions around the screen.

5. You must click (select) an "example" filename to use. Pay attention to the order of the "fields" in THAT filename. Read the instructions around the screen.

6. You must choose either a Preset button on the left that EXACTLY matches your selected name "field order" within the filename, and/or use the Define Field Order fields below and define which field is first, then select or type in the delimiter your filename has between the first and second field, moving on down the filename and defining the field order and delimiters between each field.

7. I'd suggest you click the SINGLE button to import only the tracks that have the same DiscID (assuming your filenames contain a DiscID field - if not, click the BATCH button and let it import all the files that match your "Defined Field Order" settings.

8. Click the Add Tracks button (I think that's it's name), and the Track List Window below will populate with files that match your defined field order.

9. Click the Select All check box and all check boxes below should be checked.

10. Import Selected Tracks button. This will start converting the selected file TYPE to KMA HDMP3G files, indexed in your Songs Database.

If this doesn't help you, along with reading the manual on the IMPORT HARD DRIVE FILES topic, then post 5 example filenames of files you can't import and we'll help you understand what to do, or why you are having problems.

Problems with BATCH conversion

I have XP Pro with 2 gigs ram.

I imported just fine with 4.2

I am trying to import mp3-g files and two things lock my computer.

1: If I ask it to allow subfolders, the program locks. Task manager shows "not responding"

2: If I try to import more than 30 songs from one folder and it does the same thing.

very annoying. Downloading using "single" is annoying and why I stopped using Hoster and switched to Comuhost for a year.

Hoster is a better program, but if it takes me 80 hours to import songs, I will go back to Compuhost.

Task Manager will show "Not Responding" while it is searching for the folders. Depending on how many folders you have will determine how long it has to search. Try leaving it running for a while and see if it makes it through.

What kind of computer are you using?
How much memory does it have?
What else is running at the same time?
Have you done the updates from Microsoft?
There are a lot of little things that can effect the speed of computer operations. How fragmented are you hard drives?

thanks

Thanks
I did not know "not responding" meant it was working in the background.

I will try that tonight.

I will separate the folders into easier to use segments to speed it up.

I have an HP Pavillion 8000 laptop with 2 gb ram that is defragmented and updated and a maxtor 740 GB external hard drive, 7200 rpm, 16 mb cache with usb 2.0 transfer. that is clean also.

Truthfully, Hoster 4.03 is far superior to Compuhost in quality of sound and in key changing. After I move all of my files with your advice, I will be a happy.

Bill
