Vista Problems!!!

I am so scared to load 3.321 onto my vista laptop because of all the threads that say don't load it or you will loose your information. I have all my kma's on a backup hard drive. Is it finally safe to load Mtu onto my vista. I have 3.316 on it now and have not had any problems with it. Tell me if the upgrade is good for me and why. I don't know what features it has differently then 3.316.

Thank you
Ms Karaoke

3.316 is a stable version. If you are happy with the features 3.316 offers and you're not having any problems, there is no reason to upgrade, in my opinion. Always check the Versions page at MTU.com and see if you need the added features an upgrade offers.

I hope this helps.

It was 3.318 and 3.319 that were not to be loaded, because Vista was moving, hiding or losing files. Version 3.321 is the fix for all of those Vista problems. Since you are using 3.316 then you may have problems with some formats of zip files, since that was not fixed until 3.318. There is no reason to not upgrade to 3.321.
If you do upgrade read and follow the instructions carefully in the install program. There are some things that need to be done before you complete the install.

I also have a question as to whether to upgrade from 3.317 to 3.321. Regarding zip files

I MOVED THIS TO A NEW THREAD. I think that's where it should be.

Upgraded to 3.321

I was bit sceptical to upgrade to 3.321 as I have vista but I did and thanks to the online assitance Im very pleased with it and I have no problems with importing zip files, I agree it is stable
I intend to stick with vista instead of going back to XP it will come right

In another 5 years....maybe. It took Microsoft at least that long and 2 service packs to get XP right. The US Air Force waited until shortly before SP2 came out before they switched from NT to XP. Does that tell you something about Microsoft.

I wouldn't have bought Vista, except that we were left with no choice. When I bought my new laptop, I searched all the stores & even went directly to HP. Unless you found an XP still left on the shelf, you HAD TO buy Vista if you wanted a new dual-core, etc. machine. I'm giong to rely on the posts here & upgrade my 3.317 to 3.321 and hope for the best.

Too much time & too much money invested now, to start over, unless Hoster starts having more problems with Vista. I've already heard good things from users who upgraded on Vista, so think I'll just stay!
Besides, I'm an HP fan!!!

Several things I have two laptops with Vista and both have 3.321 one Gateway the other HP

I did lose files on the HP with ver 3.318, no big deal I was just starting to build a new show and had not even used it on a gig. I have all my kma files on a backup hard drive. Upgraded and all is okay now, and stable.

If you are an HP fan, contact HP they will send you a window XP disk free of charge. I do wish I had done this but was not aware of it. I now have Hoster and Microstudio, KHP, ect plus songverter on it. Just don't want to wipe that out and have to rebuy all that programming.

XP good, Vista boo.

Swany you would not have to rebuy those programs, but you would need to get the registration reset.

As far as HP sending XP be sure to call the Business support number (someone posted it in here) and not the Home User number.

Dell (blech), Toshiba, Lenovo, Acer and most of the other laptop vendors i've checked on do still offer XP on new laptops. In some cases, it's more expensive than vista, and in other cases, less. kind of an odd situation.

The ones that are more expensive probably have the hard drives pre-loaded with Vista and have to spend extra time reloading with XP.

Thumbs up

One of the things I like about Vista is the "Sidebar" and the ability to show "Slideshows" (with music) on a second monitor for the audience. The only way I could do that with XP (without also showing the Desktop) was to put pictures on a CD & play through my CDG player. And in order to get music at the same time, I disconnected Video from the RFmodulator & put it directly to the TVs. That way I could play music at the same time while viewing a separate slideshow on the monitors.

I believe I would lose the ability to do that if I went back to XP. (not counting all the work necessary to start all over replacing Vista with XP)
It appears that MTU has already done all the work for us with all their upgrades & fixes. THANKS MTU. Can't wait to try 4.0!!!!!!!!

As other have stated, 3.321 fixed all the known problems, and then some.

Jim is right. This is where I "announce" the MAJOR changes for each version. There are often other minor changes that only a few users would be aware of so I leave them out.

We have had a number of users report installing and running 3.321. Believe me, we were waiting with stopped hearts to hear "Good News!"... and we did. There have been no negative reports.

It is safe to install 3.321. As Dale pointed out, there is a web page URL that appears during the Vista install. You must go to it, print it, do all the steps it requires, then click a button in the Hoster 3.321 install that you DID DO the changes. We don't allow you to continue until you say you did them. That is to INSURE you understand you are to make these changes. They are not hard, and only consist of moving files from folders to other folders. It appears the instructions are clear as we aren't getting any questions on them.
