dual display

i tried to set up the dual display of my friends laptop which she bought from mtu, laptop came with the rf modulator..tried everything, dual display just wont work..with or without the modulator..( does she really need the rf modulator ? ) the reason i asked was if the laptop is capable of dual display why does she has to used the modulator..but anyway everytime i do the steps to set up the dual display and point the cursor on the second screen..it keep saying "not active" i'm pretty sure i didnt make any mistakes caused i set up both of my laptops..and i think she bought the laptop 2 or 3 months ago..

try hooking up a monitor to the laptop and see if the dual display card works with/ the monitor first.....that should be an issue of going into windows and telling your system you WANT to use dual display feature. Once you get that to work, then you'll be able to hook the "modulator" up, which I think will convert the signal so that you can plug RCA into TV. Personally I bought a converter that comes out of USB on laptop and i can send signal to multiple destinations at same time,,,,,,old style TV and new style projector at same time.

Billyo, in the settings for the dual displays, right click on the second display and "Activate" it. Also, remember that the second monitor/TV has to be on, before you start the laptop or it will de-activate again.

Modulator is only necesarry when connecting to the coax input on a TV (make sure channel 3/4 is set correctly). If connecting to RCA or Svideo on the TV it's not necesary (but make sure the TV is set to "Line in" or "video" or whatever your TV calls it).

Do you see the bios bootup screens on the TV? Those are usually present even when the dual display is not set up. If you don't see those I would change out the cable in case they are defective
