editing "brand " names
I have songs that regular singers sing quite often. I've thought of putting in duplicates of those songs and renaming their titles such as Ernie-Badonkadonk, etc. So any time I type in "ernie" under search titles all his regular songs come up.
Another way would be to edit the brand name as "ernie". But then there would be discs different brand names within the same rootdisc# . Will they cause problems later such as if a need to reimport any of these songs should occur? For ex. title artist disc# track brand badonkadonk adkins 989 1 chartbuster YMCA village P 989 2 chartbuster Me & You chesney 989 3 ernie I Love You zombies 989 4 chartbuster Also, disc# 991 and others will also have some songs that will have the "ernie" brand name too. My question is "Will this mixture of brand names within and amongst different rootdisc ID's create any problems of any kind in the future that anyone is aware of?" |

I would think the safest way to do this would be to import the files a second time. I don't think it would work right if you were to just copy the .kma files and then build them into the database using the Merge Kma Files command.
I would also import them into another folder, this way you can build them into the database if you want to, or not build them if you want. This way you could build your normal songs into the database, to build your Songbook from, that way it won't have your Names beside the songs in the songbook.

I see support. However, i don't use Hoster for the songbookk, so that part wouldn't be an issue. And 'm really not copying any kma's, but just editing existing songs' brand names. That way I can look do searches for "brands" and pull up only ones sung by a particular person. Then I would have rootdisc numbers with different brand names on the same disc. Also, different brand names will be scattered around different discs.
The real question around this lies here, " Will having this mixture of rootdisc numbers and brand names create problems when I may need to do re-imports later on in case any of these songs go bad or are flaky?" |

other discs that also have combinations of more than one brand name on it. That was my real question. maybe your discs do exist this way, hopefully. Please inform me again. |

I see. All my book Id's are already in and they are matched with the disc id's. Example: book Id# 812-8 is in disc ID # 812 and bookroot Id #812 as well, and were all imported on one brand name. All my discs were previously set up that way.
Now I need to know about editing just the brand names at this point here and there throughout the complete list of disc Id's. After I do that, the disc ID's and rootbook Id's will still match; but will have different brand names within the same ID. And....similar brand names will be scattered among different "root and disc" ID's as well. Will this be okay. I just want to be clear that everyone knows exactly what I am doing before I do it, that's all. |

When you start to do this, you will know on the first disc you try to import with a different Brand. You will need to type in a custom DiscID, and you will need to click the NEXT button to get a different BookID. This is all assuming you want to keep the original, correct Brand/DiscID/BookID. If you don't, then delete them before you start, and type in or select the NEW Brand you want to use. |

brand names; went into edit songs mode and edited each one's brand name to the correct brand name I wanted in the first place. (I'm sure I confused the question earlier). So now my original question in the post just prior to the one before this still stands. Can someone help me once again in my attempt to do that, please? |

So May I assume that editing brand names from the tools edit songs menu is perfectly an okay thing to do, and should not create any unexpected problems. Anyone?

Bryan,
Since no one seems to have done it before then I guess you get to be the pioneer! Try it and see. If it causes problems ![]() ![]()

Yeah, that's exactly what I'll do. Although I'll have scattered discs everywhere with some containing different brand names of all sorts. May be difficult to
track every change I make. Unless I record every song I change initially. |

When you try to import a disc that already has some tracks imported and others you changed the Brand name on, the Import CD Tracks screen may not identify those tracks that are already imported. Thus, you could end up with duplicate songs under different Brand names. Without a programmer studying the code, I can't tell you for sure, which is why I said "MAY NOT" above. I'd recommend you make very sure you enter the Root BookID in the Search For: field and then set the Brand the same on ALL tracks from that DiscID/Root BookID. Otherwise, I don't know what will happen. ![]() |
