Question on Shipping my PC back to MTU for Repair

Can you estimate how long I would be without my PC once I ship it back?

This video problem is beyond me.

Something is not talking between Hoster and the dual display, and none of the suggestions give here on the forum have solved it.

I think I am best to just send it back and let you guys fix it.

The video card is fine (I think), I have all of the latest drivers (from ATI, not windows). The settings are just as people posted suggesting how they should be (unless I missed something).

Other tests (Direct X & such) talk to the secondary display with no problems. When I hit "identify" in display properties, it puts a 1 on my PC monitor, and a 2 on the TV.

I believe the problem lies between something with Hoster and the video settings, but it's beyond me. I'm sure you guys can fix it in 10 minutes, but you can't do it over this forum.

So, what's the best method to ship this back to you?

I'll just go back to CD's for the next 2 or 3 weeks until I get it back.

P.S. - Like I said before, I'm sure it's something that is probably obvious, but nobody here on this forum, including myself or MTU, can seem to pin it down, without having the PC in front of them.

If you want to try some trouble shooting, just take this into account.

EVERYTHING seems to work fine until I hit play on Hoster, and no lyrics come up on the TV display. I get 2 windows with lyrics on my PC screen. One is the preview display, and the other is a window showing what is "supposed" to be extended to the TV display (the lyrics).

With that, I'll pack it up and wait to hear from MTU. I think it's just better to have more than one set of eyeballs look at it.

You may be jumping the gun.

MTU support has not had an opportunity to help, so you can't really say they can't help over the forum..

You just posted the problem Friday on the other thread, and they don't normally work the weekends.

Just trying to save you from having to unpack the machine if need be.

Take care,
George

I think you finally gave us the right hint.
Double/Click on the extended lirics window that apears in the hosts display. That should put it on the TV.

If you want, you can size it the same as the smaller one and place it on top of it. This way you will havew a space for the window that shows the singers name and songs to come up next.
I hope that was the straw that solved it. !?!?!?.

Re: Question on Shipping my PC back to MTU for Repair

Double clicking on it doesn't put it on the TV display.

I'm thinking it is probably something in the system registry that is messing it up.

This is not MTU's fault. It's my fault.

I just trust them more to fix it.

Going to send it back, unless Bryan is willing to actually talk me through it, which I don't blame him if he doesn't. He's a very busy man.

No big deal. I'd rather get it back working, then have to guess that my "fix" actually did the trick.

MTU is the best. Don't hold them accountable for my own mistakes. I just want the pro's to handle it.

Thanks for all your help people. You are the best.

they are probably just going to reformat your hard drive and re-install all your software.

you could easily do it yourself in about 1 hour. it may take a little longer to go to windows and get all updates.

Re: Question on Shipping my PC back to MTU for Repair

If that small screen you see also is showing the lyrics when you play a track, then there's nothing wrong with your video card.

Have you tried clicking and dragging that small display to the right to put it on the tv? If it goes over there, then size it and double click on it to lock it in place.

If that works, it's not jusy a "fix", it's the way the thing works, and we all had to do it, as are some of the other suggestions you've been given.

Re: Question on Shipping my PC back to MTU for Repair

Tymzend,
The only thing that I can think of is that you haven't enabled the Dual Display. Do the following and lets then see what happens.

1) Right click anywhere on the Desktop, where there is no Icons. Left click on Properties.

2) Left click the Settings Tab. You should now see 1 and 2 in 2 seperate black boxes, these represent your monitors. Left click the 2, it should now have a colored ring around it, such as blue by default.

3) You should now see a checkbox come available for this monitor that states "Extend my Widnows desktop onto this monitor". Left click this to check it. Now click the Apply button.

4) You should now see something on your TV, or did you see something there before? Now you will want to also set the Screen resolution to 1024x768 for this 2nd monitor. Then change the colors to Highest (32bit), now click Ok.

Let me know what this does for it. Then we will go from there.

I am not sure how long it would take at this moment to fix it, with your shipping it to me. I have one other system already here that I need to fix, and 5 computers on there way in for me to build and ship, plus all the beta testing stuff going on for Hoster.

I have one more thing to try, but I need to know that this is all correct.

Re: Question on Shipping my PC back to MTU for Repair

It's all enabled, all the way it should be.

I really think it's a registry issue.

I am going to go ahead and reformat today, and, if that doesn't work, then I'll go from there.

Thanks all.

Re: Question on Shipping my PC back to MTU for Repair

I have my KMA's on an external hard drive. :-)

Plus, I still have everything backup up on the backup drive on the PC. Just did a disc copy last night.

Re: Question on Shipping my PC back to MTU for Repair

Bryan or Doug,

Certificate of Authenticity for Windows.

Where is it in my documentation?

It's usually attached to the manual, but my manual says it was removed by my PC manufacturer, and should be attached to the PC. I don't see it, and I don't see it in the box with all of the software.

Need that product key to continue setup.

Help?
