Backup

What exactly does the backup button do. I click it and it says can not back up but if I go to the menu across the top I can auto backup. What does this mean? What does it back up? Last time I back up i had troubl adding new cd's. What should I do. I also am gonna DL the new Hoster on Sunday. I have a show on Sat and want to get practice with it before I DL it.
