New Hoster issues

Having a couple issues with the new Hoster updates. 1st, about half the time during start-up, it will go through "Initializing Book ID's" then crashes. Usually works on the 2nd attempt. That's not a big deal. The big deal is my next issue. When adding songs, Hoster is changing the book id to another id that has already been used and is overwriting that disc with the new one. This is causing the new disc to have the wrong songbook id and totally erases the older disc. Very frustrating especially if it is not caught. I have to go in to the Imported Files & remove the files, remove the songs from Hoster, add the disc Hoster deleted, and redo adding both discs. Is this happening to anyone else?

Re: New Hoster issues

Your first item crashing after initializing, do you wait till the show display populates before hitting any buttons ?
Regarding indexing:
Which method are you using to import ?
Index Song files, Scan now or Import CD tracks ?

When you say "I have to go in to the Imported Files & remove the files" do you mean In the edit songs dialog ?

Re: New Hoster issues

Hi Roy,

As far as starting up, I never push anything while it is starting.

Indexing, I use Import Songs -> Index Song Files -> KMA + ZIP

I have a KMA folder on my hard drive that holds all of my kma's. When a file is indexed, it's name is added to a text file "ImportedFiles.txt". This keeps that file from showing up when they've already been added.

Re: New Hoster issues

Are you importing individual files to an existing Disc ID ?
If you are you need to check that it has allocated it the next track # when you press the Add files button before you select index files button.
(Maximum 99 tracks per Disc ID)
In my attachment it shows the track # of 29 as the last track imported to that Disc ID was 28. If it shows as track 1 then you are either importing to another Disc ID or something wrong with your define field order.

Are the files just Artist - Title or have you left the manufacturers track id information on the file ? If you have this could be a clue as to your problem. Try renaming them without the Manu ID.
Example from Zoom download: ZM03323 - Ramones - Baby I Love You.zip
Rename as: Ramones - Baby I Love You.zip.
Set define field order to Artist - Title. then manually enter the Disc Id you want the files added to before pressing the Add files button. Don't change the Brand field till after the files have been added to the lower window and check the track # showing is the next one in sequence before finally indexing.

Re: New Hoster issues

This is when adding a new disc. Example: I'm adding a new Sunfly, SF380 & it is disc number 3205. When I go to import it, the disc ID changes to SF120 & it imports 380 into its place, erasing 120 and giving 380 the disc number that sf120 had.

Re: New Hoster issues

Ok, when I asked you "Which method are you using to import ?
Index Song files, Scan now or Import CD tracks ?"
You replied "Indexing, I use Import Songs -> Index Song Files -> KMA + ZIP"

So you should be using: Import Songs/Import CD tracks. dialog.
This is why it gets confusing.
I haven't experienced any of the problems you describe importing CD from the Import CD tracks dialog.

Is this the latest version you are using ?
When you say it is disc 3205 where are you getting that Number from ?

If you put the disc in the drive enter Sunfly in the Brand window and SF-380 in the Disc Id column then press Search local database it will then populate the lower window with all unknowns, after that what # is showing in the Book Id root window ? only that is the first free Book id. if you change it to one already in use it could change the Disc ID as you say and overwright an existing.
If your trying to make it use a Book Id of your own choice you have to be very careful what you use.

Re: New Hoster issues

There is no option for KMA + ZIP in the Import CD Tracks screen. There is only ".kma", ".wma+g", ".zip (wma+g)", ".mp3+g", and ".zip (mp3+g)". The last two are only available if you have the libmp3lame.dll present on your system.

Are you Importing tracks from CDs or are you Indexing song files from a hard drive?

If it's the latter, then the recommended method is to use "KMH" when possible.

Re: New Hoster issues

I'm indexing files from the hard drive. I've used the KMA + zip since I started using Hoster over 10 years ago and never had an issue until now. It happened on another computer last night. Luckily, I caught it. Will switching to KMH + zip solve the problem?

Re: New Hoster issues

The reason I mention KMH is that KMA files will take up extra space if the file is already on your hard drive. A KMA is a full file with all of the audio and graphics contained inside. Hoster uses KMH files to contain only information about the file. The source files (.zip or whatever) stay in place. This option uses a lot less of your hard drive space.

You might want to check the amount of free space you have on the target drive (KMA storage location).

Re: New Hoster issues

I doubt changing to KMH will help but most of us have changed to that format..

Can you paste an example file name exactly as named on your Hard drive before you import it and also attach a screen shot of your Define field order.

That way we can set up the same scenario and try it ourselves.

Is this really necessary? When I purchase a single song on-line, I download it to a thumb drive, then import it to Hoster as a KMA, and the original zip file remains on the thumb drive as a backup. I don't carry it with me. I have been doing it this way for several years. Are you saying that now we HAVE TO start carrying those files with us & use KMH ONLY?

Re: New Hoster issues

SKYBIRD
Jeri,
You still have the choice of Importing as KMA or KMH, Read Dave's explanation of Why, that you would maybe wish to change to the KMH format... Mostly to save hard drive space... KMA being proprietary to Hoster, will not work if you wanted to change (Why would we want to right?) hosting programs... whereas the KMH file is usable in any other application you may need or want to test out or change to... I think with the low cost of today's larger capacity Hard Drives , the saving of memory, between the KMA and KMH file size is a moot point... just transfer to a larger capacity hard drive when needed! I'm using a 2TB External Hard Drive at the moment, and you can't believe how many memory hogging videos I have stored, right along side my 30,000 karaoke files of mixed KMA & KMH files...

Re: New Hoster issues

KMH is recommended, not required.

Since KMH does not contain the audio and graphics, there is no need to "unpack" the KMH format. Hence, you get time savings, in addition to space savings.

But the way you are doing it is fine. There is nothing wrong with your method or Rikki's. It's all good.

Re: New Hoster issues

Haven't been on here in a while but am still experiencing the same problems I had before when importing new discs. It changes the Book ID number of the new disc to an old disc that has already been imported and erases the old disc. Very frustrating. This last time it won't let me correct it's mistake. I can't be the only one this is happening to. Maybe people just aren't realizing it is happening. Come on Hoster/MTU. I've been a loyal customer for over a decade and am thinking of switching to another program. This is total bullshit.

Re: New Hoster issues

You didn't reply to my post #10 with example file name and define field order.
We need to try and duplicate what you are doing to try and see where the problem is.
Also there has been an updated version 5.41.04 since you started this thread, are you now using this latest version ?

I think it could be to do with the define field order picking out something in your file name, if you can post the examples we may be able to help.
When you purchase downloads from online they normally have some id numbers either at the start or end of file name, I'm wondering if this is contributing to your problem.
