equipment question - powered amp

sorry not sure where to post this. I currently have peavy pr 12 loudspeakers and I use the behringer pmp2000 powered mixer. For ease when I can plug into an existing system I use a behringer xenyx 1202 fx mixer. Im looking to be able to use the small mixer with a powered amp to lighten the load for me as the other amp is heavy lol. Any suggestions for those that have this kind of equipment?

I have four sets of powered Eon 15 Speakers, use them in four diffent places every night of the week. Always get compliments on sound. Have the Xenyx mixer, too.

I use to have a pair of powered JBL Eon speakers but a couple of years ago I switched to the Bose L1 Model II speaker. This one powered speaker will handle a crowd of up to 500 people. This speaker will work with your mixer. I use the Bose mixer (they call it a "Tone Generator") The sound is unbelievable but so is the price. The great thing about this speaker system is that you can move anywhere in the room and sound will be the same. Of course the closer to the speaker the louder it is but the tone and sound quality stays consistent through out the room. This speaker system is easy to carry and quick to set up. Also you no longer have to use speaker stands. The JBL's were great but got to be to heavy for me, especially lifting them up on the speaker stands. This Bose system in my opinion is second to none and many of the KJ's in my area have started using them after hearing mine. Good Luck!

Since you are also using the Bose L1 and the T1 for karaoke, what setting are you using for the your microphone to duplicate the "karaoke sound"?

When I used my powered amp/mixer it had lots of effects settings to chose from including one labeled as "karaoke". I used the karaoke selection and I'm trying to duplicate that effect using the T1 Tone Match. It looks like a choice between "Delay or Reverb".

I'm not a soundman pro and the T1 settings are complicated and I'm having a problem setting up the T1 for the karaoke effect.

What settings are you using?

I am not using the Bose Tone Generator any longer. It is great but I need more inputs and you are right the Bose Tone Generator isn't easy to use because all the settings are accessed by the rotary control on the right. I don't remember the exact settings I used on the Bose. If I remember correctly they had several type of delays, i.e, digital, tape etc. The same thing for the Reverb. You can also mix them. I would start at the default settings and tweak them until I got the sound I wanted. Because of different acoustics in different clubs I would have to re-tweak the settings for each club. You have to be careful how much delay and especially how much reverb or you will run into feedback problems. I use a DBX Drive Rack PA with their RTA mic to setup the best EQ for the club I am playing and it also has a feedback eliminator built into it. When I get it set up for a particular club I store the setting into memory and next time I'm at that club I just call up that memory and I'm ready to go. Feedback is pretty much a thing of the past using this unit. The DBX model I have is no longer available but they have new and betters ones now. With Bose L1 Model II and the DBX Drive Rack PA, I have been told by many that I have the best sound in town.

I now use a Mackie PROFX16 mixer in place of the Bose T1. It gives me a variety of FX settings and they are quick to add and everything is easily accessed. The important thing is that I really needed the additional channels and on those rare occasions when I use stage monitors it is much easier to utilize than the Bose. I had to use the Aux out on the Bose for the stage monitors and it was a pain and not quickly accessible. The Bose Tone Match (mixer) wasn't really designed for KJ or DJ use. It was designed more with the musician in mind.

Thanks for the quick response. I have the L1 Compact and T1 and it's great for my use since I'm not a pro and only used it for karaoke at home and my association club house.

I cannot understand the hype of the Bose system other than being compact, I have never heard one that I though was worth the money. Even testing with 2 sticks, 2 subs & the tone generator in my own club.

I have had various good speaker systems, JBL included and the Bose L1 Model II is by far the best sounding system I have heard. I have 2 Base modules and I guess if the base isn't enough for the DJ thumpers you could add a powered subwoofer. For karaoke and my live shows the sound is great and I always get compliments on the sound. A friend of mine recently purchased the Bose system and when I went to his show the sound was horrible. Lesson here is no matter what speakers you use you have to know how to set them up. Maybe you just haven't heard the right setup?

For me, at 74, it's about the convenience of setting it up, and the weight. Of course, I'm not a pro and the largest audience I'll have is fifty people at the association's club house. My old system was not top end and I do find the vocals on the Bose L1 Compact with T1 ToneMatch are much clearer than my old system.

A while back, I downloaded "Can't Really Be Gone" from ALL Star Karaoke and tried to sing it, but I'm no match for your dad. I also liked his singing better Tim's singing. Maybe it's because I heard your dad singing it before Tim singing it.

Yeah sorry, I understand setting up gear. I even had the Bose rep helping me out - and he knew sound as well. I didn't care for it. Since then I've heard 5 other clubs using them - didn't care them. I guess it's one of these types of systems that only a handful of people really know how to operate them?? I simply cannot believe out of 6 systems total - including my week long test in my club that everyone of those systems are being run incorrectly.

Too funny, I forgot those were even still on my site. I've heard many songs first in karaoke that I then heard the original & thought the karaoke singer was better.

Just for speaker information:

I use QSC speakers and am totally hooked on them. Expensive? Yes... but well worth every dollar.

I have had more compliments on these speakers than any other I've owned. (Note: Never owned Bose)

I have:

2 - QSC K-12 (41 lbs. each)

2 - QSC K-10 (32 lbs. each)

2 - QSC K-8 (27 lbs. each)

They are all 1,000 watt (each) powered and awesome...

Note: When you run them on "deep" bass, you can eliminate a sub woofer.

Depends on the model - every manu has their gems (just like karaoke) lol. If I had the money I'd be buying McCauley or EAW all day long. But currently I am running Peavey SP5's with DJS18 subs - the system completely crossed over and tri-amped.

I bet they do sound great! I don't want to lug around big heavy speakers anymore and especially place them on a speaker stand. I'm to old for that now. But you...you are still a young whipper snapper! LOL

For mobil use. Check on Helicon Fx-150. And it's not expensive..
