new computer set up

I recently bought a new computer with windows 8. I know there are always items that need to be changed within the computer for certain windows operation that must be performed before running the hoster program. Where can I find these changes?

Re: new computer set up

You don't say which version of Hoster you are using but it is available from the Hoster manuel.
As you can't see that unless you first install Hoster try this link:

Re: new computer set up

Thank you Roy for that help. I found it and made my changes. I'm now having trouble rebuilding my data base. I have a new laptop (gateway brand), I'm running windows 8 and using one the lastest hoster versions 5.10. It's starts to rebuild then around song 1601 it locks up and message block appears, hoster is shutting down the application. I have never had problems with windows seven. Is there any way to change windows 8 to operate like windows seven?

Re: new computer set up

I am unfamiliar with Windows 8 myself so can't advise much on it's use but other users are finding it OK, in fact MTU are talking about shipping their own computers with windows 8 system and with touch screen functionality as they say from their tests with Windows 8 have been good.

Getting to your problem, as you say it gets to about 1601 files and then you get the shutting down, it may be a bad file causing a problem in the rebuild.
The problem is trying to find the offending file.

If you open your Build Songs Database dialog, do you have a lot of folders listed in the rebuild list or just one ?

If you have lots of folders it might be better to just load one folder at a time and see if it is erroring on a particular folder.

If all your songs are in a single folder then I would try splitting the files into 2 separate folders creating a tempory folder, then try importing one first to see if the error is in that folder, if it errors out on the first folder remove that one and try the second one and see if the problem is related to only one half.
If the first folder builds OK then gradually add more files from the tempory folder to the first folder using explorer then rescan the folder, keep doing this till it errors again then that will give you a clue as to the bad file.

If the files you are adding are previously imported files then be sure not to have any of the buttons selected in the top half of the dialog for "Song types to index" so that it will only index previously indexed files with their existing book id's first.

If you have multiple folders listed in the rebuild list you can delete a file in the Hoster folder so that Hoster starts with an empty list so that you can add the folders one at a time till you find the offending folder.
To do that in version 5.10 from the Tools menu select "Hoster Data Folder", once the folder is open close Hoster but keep the folder open, look down the list for "HosterInfoIndexed.ini" and delete it or just rename it to something different then you can always name it back to it's original name should you want to.
Now start Hoster and open the Build songs database dialog and the folder list should be empty, then add folders one at a time, it should rebuild the database automatically as you add each folder.
But as I stated above make sure none of the buttons are selected for "Song types to index"
Don't try importing new tracks until all your previously imported files are imported or you will get duplicated book or disc id problems.

See how you get on with that.
