Second Screen

I read the post about correcting the second screen posted some time ago, but I am doing something wrong because it doesn't work for me. I have 5.10 release. On my desktop, I can not get the second screen to work for me. On my laptop, I was able to drag one screen to the right, and I could double click it, and it gives me the whole screen. I can revert to the small screen in the same fashion.

Any ideas on what I am going wrong. Should I be able to drag the second screen to a different place with my desktop?

Bill

Re: Second Screen

Are you saying you can't get the singers screen to appear on a 2nd monitor ?

To do this your computer must support dual graphics which most modern computers do.

With a second monitor connected right click on a blank area of your laptop screen, now the next bit is different depending on your windows version, XP select properties then the settings tab, windows 7 select Screen resolution, you should then see a dialog showing screen 1 & 2 side by side, XP select screen 2 and tick the box for "extend my windows on to this monitor"
Windows 7 you should see multiple displays box with a dropdown arrow, select "Extend these displays. after either selection press apply and OK.

Now if you double click on the singers screen while in small mode it should jump across to the extended monitor in full screen, or you can drag it to the right ontother other monitor.
You may have to restart Hoster for it to work.

If you still can't get it going let us know your windows version and let us know if you are seeing the windows screen dialog showing screens 1 & 2 side bye side.

Re: Second Screen

I didn't describe it correctly. The problem is with my desktop computer. My laptop and desktop have Windows 7 Home Version. I cannot drag or get the small screen in the top left corner to any place on the screen on my desktop. I cannot get the words of the song in full screen mode. However, on my laptop, I am able to drag a copy of the top left small screen to the bottom right. I can double clip this "screen", and it will go to full screen mode, and to go back to main screen, double click and it becomes a small screen.

What am I missing on my desktop?

Re: Second Screen

Try this: First go to the Tools Menu/options in the dialog that opens press the "Reset Displays" button.

This will reset so you should see 2 singers screens on your desktop, one the small top left preview screen and a larger one that can be double clicked to full screen or resized.

The small fixed preview screen in the top left corner can be detached and resized by following these instructions: Tools Menu/Show Display in this dialog select the preview tab, now tick the box for "Undock and Resize Display" Press apply and close
There is another tick box there for "Always ON Top" but I prefer this left un ticked, that's your choice.
You then have to shut Hoster down and re start for it to take effect, after this you should also be able to drag that small preview screen to a new position and stretch it bigger.
Hope that helps you.

Re: Second Screen

Roy,

I thought I had it the two screen working, but run into a glitch. I followed your instructions and the second screen appeared immediately, I clicked save and rebooted. The second singer screen was on display. I hit the play button, and I had a screen in the upper left corner, and I had a second screen. I thought I had it, but when I double clicked, the screen went away instead of going to full screen. Also, it reset the song in upper left to start over.

It is like the second screen is tied to the first screen. Double click deleted the second screen, and the song started over. The second screen vanished.

I am close, but no cigar.

Re: Second Screen

It sounds like it is jumping over to a second monitor. Do you have an hdmi or other type video lead connected to any ports Or connected to a second monitor that is not turned on ?
When the second screen disappears try moving your mouse pointer over to the right and of the screen and double click while it's of the screen and see if the other screen pops back.

If you Right click on your desktop and select "Screen Resolution" Are you seeing 2 screens side by side numbered 1 & 2, if so you seem to be connected to another monitor.
Try pressing the Windows Key + P which should bring up a Dialog then select disconnect projector.

The Windows key is the key with the windows icon on it.

Re: Second Screen

I shut down Hoster and rebooted. I could not get it to work. My son had hooked my computer to an old Karaoke machine and from there to a an old television. He used the karaoke machine for sound and the TV for video. I will check with him this weekend to see what he knows about it.

Should I not still have two screens on my desktop? I am of the opinion that my laptop will do that, but haven't tried it.

Re: Second Screen

If you can't get it to disengage the second monitor via the windows key + P as I described before.
The other way is from the Screen resolution dialog where you see the 2 screens side by side 1 & 2, in the drop down box next to Multiple Displays select "Show desktop only on 1" then apply and OK.

Re: Second Screen

Now I have two screens on Hoster. However, my main screen on my computer is about half size. I used the option to show both screens together. I am going to have to get my regular computer screen back to full size. I tried double clicking on the top of the screen with no luck. Do you suppose I will need two setting, one for Hoster and one for computer, or is there a better way?.

Re: Second Screen

You say "I used the option to show both screens together" I'm not familiar with that setting.

From windows Screen resolution settings dialog the only choices I see are:
Duplicate these displays, Extend these Displays (This is the normal choice), Display desktop only on 1, Show desktop only on 2.

If you use the Windows +P key I only see: Computer Only, Duplicate, Extend and Projector only.

Are you using one of these settings or some other ?

Whichever you choose you would need to use the "Reset Displays" button from Hosters options after making the changes.

You could try system restore to a time just before your son hooked up all the other equipment or to when you first installed version 5.10 see if that helps.

Re: Second Screen

I am almost afraid to do anything with it because I lost my screen for a long time, and it scarred me. I think I can fix my desktop small screen. I just pulled it to correct the size. I was in the screen resolution dialog.

I think the number one and number two screens were reversed. Hoster screen in top left corner was the one to double click and it would go from small screen and if double clicked, it would go back to normal size.

I dragged the one that was in the top left to the right bottom, and I dragged fixed screen to the top left. It may be a little confusing, but I am going to look at the current setting if I can.

Re: Second Screen

I have my screen working great now. It is set to "show desktop only on 2. My screens somehow are reversed. "show desktop only on 1" gives me a blank screen.

The time I had both screens at once was the choice of "display duplicates" or similar language. Thanks for the help.
