Hosster crashed while editing song

When editing my songs, Hoster crashed. It will not restart. Clicking on the program brings up the hour glass but nothing happens. I have tried reinstalling the program without first uninstalling. Then I tried a system restore to a earlier point to where I know Hoster was working. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I then went into msconfig and disabled all start up items. None of these fixed the problem.

I have a brand new Dell laptop with no other programs installed.
Intel i7-3630QM 2.40GHz 8 gb ram 64 bit Windows 7
1 TB hard drive, 1gb NVIDIA GeForge GT 650M
Hoster 508.11

Just on another note I was previously running this same version on a previously owned Dell Laptop pretty much the same as I have now but more power on this one than the previous one. Have been using Hoster for numerous years so I am pretty puzzled why this happened. Short of reformatting my computer I don't know what else to try.

Re: Hosster crashed while editing song

Try this, Open C\MTU\Hoster folder, find the songs.mdb file and either delete it or rename it to "songsold.mdb" as a backup.

Now restart Hoster, it should start rebuilding the database. Do not interfere with it while it is rebuilding, it should open as normal after this has been done.
It sounds like your database got corrupted, were you editing it in Hosters Tools/Edit Songs or some other programme ?

If it opens after the above then you have fixed your issue, if it still does not open, then you can try the following.

WARNING! DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! Be sure you follow this exactly. If you delete the wrong Registry Keys, Windows on your computer could be damaged, requiring it to be re-installed.
WARNING: If you do this under Hoster 4.0 and above it will be as if you have a brand new computer. You will lose your Instabuttons and other items. Make sure you wish to take it back to a brand new install before you do this.

Fix: Delete Hoster's Persistence Registry Keys.
  1. Left click the Start Menu and click Run.(windows 7 just type regedit.exe in the search box)
  2. Type in regedit and click OK or Open.(Windows 7 click on the found result for regedit).
  3. Go to the very top of the Registry Editor. It you already see the Registry Keys expanded below, skip this step and go to the next step. Click the + beside My Computer.
  4. Click the + Beside HKEY_CURRENT_USER
  5. Click the + beside SOFTWARE
  6. Click the + beside Micro Technology Unlimited
  7. Click the + beside Hoster
  8. Click Default to select it. WARNING! Be VERY careful to have this exact location selected. If not and you proceed, you could damage your Windows installation, requiring it to be re-installed to fix it. BE VERY CAREFUL! With Default selected, press the Delete Key Click Yes when it asks you if you are sure.
  9. Click the X in the Top Right corner to close the Registry Editor.
  10. Open Hoster. It will be as if you started from scratch.

Re: Hosster crashed while editing song

Renaming the database worked. I knew somebody out there would have a answer for me. Thank you so much.

Re: Hosster crashed while editing song

Well now it's working right and you know it was the corrupted songs.mdb, you can delete the one you renamed as that was the corrupt one as you won't need it anymore, it won't do any harm leaving it there, just make sure not to use it again.

I will now close this thread.
