Hoster 5.07 freezes then crashes
I am currently running Hoster 5.07 after the recent release. I have a Dell AMD Phenom 8400, triple core processor with 2.11 GHz, 3gb RAM, running XP Pro with service pack 3. My C drive has 168gb of free space and my K drive has 268 gb of free space. All of my karaoke songs including all of my KMA files are located on my K drive. With the recent update to 5.07 I am having issues. The first issue is when I click on search the locate the song, Hoster locates the song. Upon pushing play, Hoster freezes then closes. I have been through all of the changes that are required my Hoster. On 5.06 install, I lost all of my database and had to reinstall them. Upon updating to 5.07, I had to rebuild my database and still I am missing numerous songs. i have over 280,000 KMA, CDG files yet my Hoster only shows I have 95,000 songs. I have been through the tutorials and have made all the current changes to windows yet upon playing a song Hoster crashes and I have to do a complete re-install. Also when trying to remove silence, Hoster crashes. How do I fix these problems?
Thank you, Brett

Re: Post Hoster 5.07 Problems Here
I used 5.07 Release version tonight. Upon opening Hoster, I did start BA but decided I didn't want to use it so I closed it right away and did not use it at all. Hoster still crashed after playing only 5 songs from the Playlist. I closed it, reopened it & it worked fine the rest of the night, but I didn't use anything (not even key change or tempo) except Search & SDB. Last week, 5.07 Beta only crashed after repeatedly stopping & starting songs in BA and using Talkover for an extended period of time. So, I don't understand why Hoster should crash tonight when all I did was open & close BA before I even played the first song in the Playlist.

When you install an update, if your song files are on an external drive then that drive must be connected as you install the update else it will lose the file paths to your songs. So my first question is was the K:/Drive connected when you first installed the 5.06 version and when upgrading to 5.07 ? Another question, why is the external "K" do you have lots of other devices connected ? The songs missing issue is probably due to the file paths missing in the Build Songs Database list of folders. These folders can either be added individually or use the "Add Folders/Sub-folders button". I would think if you select the "Add Folders/Sub-folders button" with none of the song Types highlighted and select your K:/Drive as that is top of the tree order, it should search the whole drive for KMA & KMH files that are already on that drive putting them all in the database as it finds them. One problem that may occur here as you say you have 280,000 files, if it finds duplicate disc id it will not load them and with that many files this could easily happen. If after trying the above your files are still missing and Hoster crashing use the rebuild database button. Also look in the merge duplicates feature and check in the file "C:/MTU/Hoster/MergeSongDBLog.txt" file which will give you a list of duplicated DiscIDs. Another problem that has probably occurred here is that when install this version it creates a "HosterPrior" Icon on your desktop that is a preserved version you had before installing 5.07 so that you could revert back to this without re-installing if you had a problem along with the normal icon for Hoster 5.07. Now if you re-installed this version then it would have made the Prior version as just another 5.07 copy stopping you being able to revert back instantly. Why it is closing as you press play I don't know but it may be your database is screwed so causing problems. If after checking the database as above you are still having problems then as a suggestion to get things back to how they were before these problems started, try System restore to the time before installing 5.06. Get your previous good version running correct then install 5.07 which as I stated above will give you 2 executable versions, a 5.07 and whatever version you were previously using. Then don't try re-installing over that until you get both operating correct.

Thanks for responding Roy. To clarify, my "K" drive is an internal hard drive and I labled it "K" for Karaoke. So are you saying that I need to uninstall 5.07 or should I do a complete uninstall of hoster and start with a fresh slate?

It doesn’t read like that to me. The K volume for your drive is OK, I only queried it as it was an unusual selection. Which version were you running before you lost most of your songs ? If you were previously running an earlier version than 5.03 then you would need to follow these instructions first: http://forum.mtu.com/showthread.php?t=13002 What I was trying to do was get you back to a time & version that was working OK for you. The reason being the 5.07 install allows you to run both your old version and the new version in unison with one another. If you do as you ask above with a completely new install it will only load version 5.07 as it would be as if you had no previous version installed unless you re-install your previous good version first. If you do that I should make sure your previous version is running correct before installing 5.07. If you want to go down the route of a completely new install of 5.07 only then I would try this: First make a backup of your Hoster folder that can be found in the C:/MTU folder, save somewhere safe like a usb stick, another drive or CD, this may be helpful if you want to recover lost play list and singers list or other info later. Now un-install Hoster then clear out the Hoster registry by following these instructions: http://www.mtu.com/faq-test.php?article=26. Doing this will lose all your instabutton settings and all previous settings. Then look in the C:/MTU folder and if there is still a Hoster folder (not the backup one you saved earlier) Delete it. then re-install Hoster but be aware if you do this you will probably lose all play lists, singers list, and other settings, it should be as if you never had Hoster installed. The backup of the Hoster folder would have saved some settings like singers lists and play lists and certain other data which you may be able to recover later but not the instabuttons as they are stored in the registry keys..

Also, 280,000 CDG songs? Really? I'll warn you that a new organization is coming on the scene that WILL go after show hosts who are using bootleg songs. Unless you paid in the range of $200,000 for your songs, I highly suspect you may not be able to prove legal ownership of what you are using. That's all I'll say about that. Consider yourself warned. I'm not surprised you have 95,000 indexed out of 280,000 because there are only around 100,000 - 150,000 CDG songs in existence. Now, as Roy stated, if you have songs with the same song identification data (Title, Artist, Brand, DiscID, Track#), when Hoster indexes the first one in the songs.mdb, any that follow are considered duplicates. For example, if you bought ALL the Sound Choice discs, you may have as many as 10 copies of some songs. Only the first will index. I'm not expert on what exactly we use, but dupes from the same Brand (Mfgr) are culled out and not indexed. |

I have multiple copies of the same song by Sound Choice because the same song appears on more than 1 disk. However, in my "kma" database they do show as which disk they are on - i.e. SC8200, SC8460, SC7542. The 8000 series are always exactly the same song, but that same song on the 7000 series is different. According to Sound Choice one particular disk set (I can't think of the name at this moment ![]() |

Re: Hoster 5.07 freezes then crashes
From what I can remember when testing this back a few versions ago, it only throws them out if the Disc ID and track # was duplicated, It would still import the same Title with same Artist so long as the Disc ID & track # was different. The other thing it throws out is if a Book Id is identical but then allows you to merge it with a new Book ID. It can't merge a duplicated Disc Id +tr # as far as I can remember.
