Read from singer's disk while another singing?

When I try to read a song from a CDG to the 'temporary' file, if another singer is performing at the same time, the audio becomes garbled/choppy until disc access completes... I should be able to do that right? (I tried it on my desktop at home, and it seemed to work fine.) Are there settings on my laptop I should double-check (DMA, etc)? The laptop is a Dell Inspiron purchased from MTU, a few years back. Interestingly, the CD drive in my desktop is NOT MTU certified...

This is an iffy thing for many of us. If you have a hi-speed system with a lot of ram and a video card with a larger memory then it usually is not a problem. If it is a slower system with minimum memory and a video card with average memory, then no it can't. Laptops are the worst because their video cards use shared memory. In other words they are taking away from system memory to run the video.

Re: Read from singer's disk while another singing?

thanks much -- kinda what I thought, I was hoping there was some setting or something to give the "Show module" a higher priority, let the disc reading be slow, but keep the song playing... It might be my imagination or feeble old memory, but I thought sure that I could load a cdg while playing a couple years ago... I stopped doing shows for a while, recently upgraded the software, and hit the road again. Whence I found I couldn't do it... I wonder if the newer versions are more taxing on the system or something?

MTU, any suggestions? Are your new laptops configured/powerful enough to do this?
