Ripping laser discs

Hello. I am having no luck ripping a laser disc via capture card that will play in Hoster. I have tried several ripping formats (avi, mpeg, mp4, etc) - in which some will either crash Hoster or will play but with black or colored screen and no sound - but will play in WMP fine. I have also installed the CODEC pack recommended from several throughout various threads on this forum.
So I guess my question would be which program have you used with positive results? Also which format to rip would be recommended?

Try to convert your file to mpeg VCD compliant. What I did to my laserdisc is to copy it to digital camcoder thru video input and convert the digital file to Vcd compliant mpeg. Try the already available file(s) you have to convert to mpeg files. I have TMPGenc 2.5 to convert all my files VCD compliant mpeg files. All my mpeg files work in hoster. Hope this will help

Thanks for that. I think I actually found a program that successfully worked - literally tried 45 programs the last couple days. It's a rather large mpg file - 285MB, but I can play with the compression ratios later. So far so good though as far as it playing perfectly in Hoster.

Alright here is a wierd one. I brought my videos that played fine on my computer at home, loaded them on my show computer. They didn't play at all - not even on WMP. It was an older version so I updated to 11 & loaded a compatible codec pack. Now they will play fine through WMP and Hoster recognizes them, loads them and starts to play - video comes up perfect, however no audio. I thought maybe something changed in my audio settings, but all my kma files played fine. Tried a video again, video fine - no audio. I slid the volume slider on the Hoster screen (it's always at max) & the audio appeared. Stopped the song loaded up another - perfect video, no audio, clicked the volume slider again (just clicked it did not move or adjust this time), audio appeared.
Has anyone experienced this phenomenon? If so, what was the fix?

I have had this problem, can't quite remember the exact fix but it was a matter of changing some settings in the k-light tweak tool. If you mess the settings up too much you can always set it back to it's default settings so don't be afraid to fiddle with it.

i've had that happened too, i had to turn the slider on my board up even though the hoster volume control is up when i play video..checked all the volume on my computer ( audio setting ) everything was fine..but now they seemed to be working fine now didnt have to do anything..

Be sure to make all the recommended changes to your Windows (XP, Vista or Win7). Some relate to videos.

Are your video files on an external drive or an internal holding Windows? Again, there are some Windows changes we recommend that allow video files to play from external drives.

Be sure to check the Hoster upgrades page at http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster#Upgrades. As a beta tester, you should be running the latest 4.32.10 version.

Right now they are on the internal drive - 250gb raid. I am sort of still in test waters with the videos but are getting closer. As soon as I can get this problem figured out it will be a full go. I will try to get the computer home to do all the updates, I just haven't touched updating as everything has worked flawlessly - well until this wrinkle.
I can't get my show machine home to upload every latest change as it is built into a solid cabinet that I have to dismantle to get it out - sort of a security issue - I take it out to clean the insides/fans/check connections every 5-7 months.
On my test machine & laptop I do have the latest.

We sold a few systems in the early 2000's with RAID drives. Problem was if one drive failed or had damaged files, the RAID copied the damage to the second drive and you were hosed.

I don't know what RAID # you are using, but we don't recommend this any more.

The RAID backup sw runs in background and causes an unknown load on the system. I'd suspect this first if you are having any anomalies in performance.
