Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

Has anyone experienced any problems with either 4.30 or 4.31 with Windows 7?

My last download was 4.22 and gave me a fit with "Hoster Stopping" until I finally made some changes to my computer to compensate for the problems. I downloaded it directly and couldn't back up to the previous version (hard lesson learned). Won't do that anymore!

I am VERY reluctant to download any upgrade now. I guess you could call me gun shy!!!

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

I thought you were using 4.30, Kelly. Check the forum and you will see only one drive problem (Older computer) and your audio problem for non-karaoke files for 4.30 and none listed so far for 4.31.
As we and MTU have always said, Save the download and do not Run the download to make sure you have a copy. Though if you look now MTU is making previous versions available for those who need to back up to a previous version.

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

Dale,

I'm totally confused with your post. Were you responding to my message? I didn't see anything here from anyone named Kelly...

The audio problems I had were related to BA and I've since stopped using BA totally! I now use Windows Media to play my music and I use no music between singers... BA is a thing of the past for me. The "Hoster Stopping" problem went away also when I stopped using BA.

I have downloaded 4.31 and it's sitting in a folder on my desktop waiting for me to get up the nerve to install it!

I'm think I am the only one that had a drive problem with version 4.30 on a HP-Vista Laptop. I since have upgraded to 4.31 and the drive problem went away. I have no way of knowing what may have caused the problem. I can tell you I am very pleased with 4.31. I did a show Thursday night using my old (2003) EMachine - XP Home Addition, maxed out at 1.25 Gig of memory and the show went without a glitch. Hope this helps.

As recommended in the Manual, set a "Restore Point" before you upgrade, just in case. If you are not happy, you can still go back to a previous version also. Several people with Windows7 say that 4.3x is working fine. I use Vista, which occasionally has it's own problems.

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

Sorry, confusion between names and it was very late when I answered this.
Anyway, MTU has now made it possible for you to get several past releases if you need to go back. Something that wasn't available when you upgraded to 4.22.

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

I had a show last night and I got "Hoster Stopped Working" four times!

I have not had this happen in many, many weeks. Hoster has not stopped working (even once) at all any time!!!

The only difference last night's show and the prior weeks was, I have downloaded Hoster 4.31 to my desktop and it is sitting in a folder. It "has not" been installed...

I don't understnd how or why this happened, but it did!

Nothing, absolutely nothing, has been changed on my computer. In fact, this was the only time in many weeks that my show laptop has been on line at all... I only go online with it to upgrade Hoster. I believe in "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" That's why it stays off line.

I am not only gun shy now (about upgrading), but also baffled...

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

If you have not install 4.31 then it could not have caused this. What it is I do not know but it sounds like you are back to the same old problem.

Maybe we've got "gremlins". I have 4.31 and at home everything worked fine. Friday night I played DJ the first 1/2 hour because no one was there. I imported an ordinary CD (not karaoke). After only 3 songs, Hoster crashed??????????????? Yet, when testing at home I had no crashes while testing imports, etc. before doing my first Show with 4.31. I don't know what to say either Nothing seems to make sense these days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

Skybird,

That for the information. At least I don't feel like the Lone Ranger right now!

What do you use for your DJ work? I only use Windows Media now when I DJ before my show starts.

I am "VERY" reluctant to use BA again... Since I stopped using it, I had not had any stops until Saturday night!

I've almost got up the nerve to install 4.31, but am still nervous about doing it. I don't have another show until Thursday, so maybe I will have time to recover if something happens...

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

Well, I did it! I installed 4.31 tonight. Will let you know how it went later when I run a mock show...

BTW - Does anyone know how this works - You can now have up to 99 Instabuttons, but only one line shows them on your Playlist screen.
However, the screen can be resized (move the bottom and right edges) to show more Instabuttons at the same time.

What screen? Bottom and right edges of what? Can't figure where it's telling you to click & drag...

I agree. I haven't figured it out yet either.

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

It is just like any other screen/window for anything you open in Microsoft Windows. You put the mouse point down on the lower right hand corner and it changes to the double arrow pointer, press the left mouse button and hold it and drag it out to whatever size you want. You can do this to the main Hoster screen and you can also resize the singer's display the same way.
You won't be able to use 99 Instabuttons but you can get more now than we had before, by resizing the Hoster main Window.

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

Dale,
I still don't understand. When the Hoster screen is maxed out in size, where do you click and drag? I cannot get the double arrow to show up anywhere!

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

If you have it maxed out as in full screen then no you will not be able to increase its size any more than that. This would only work if you do not have it set to maximum. If it is at maximum size then it should be filling the entire screen already, so you can't increase it beyond that.

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

Why would I not want the Hoster screen maxed out? In other words, one line of Buttons is all you get! Bummer!

I would rather give up a line on the Singers screen and have a double line of InstaButtons. Instead of BA (which gives me problems) I use these Buttons to play short sniplets of music and Sound Effects when a Singer is dragging butt getting on stage.

With the present option, I'm able to get about 17 Buttons, depending on the length of the name on the Button.

That's why I'd like a fade option (which Admin said wasn't possible) on the instaButtons!

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

I expect that since they have increased the number of buttons you can set up that soon there will be the option for a second line.

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

I just moved hoster 4.31 to my Hp laptop last sunday nite and did some testing monday morning. I open 2 playlist window just to find out if I could work or use two playlist side by side just like old 3.4 (which will let you open as up to 5 or many). As I played Audio on playlist 1 and just work on playlist 2 just adding songs, Playlist 1 repeat the song after it finished when I stopped playlist 1 and then played the next audio when it reaches 0.00.00. it just stayed there did stop and stop button was greyed out I could not do any to stop it so I have to hit ctrl-alt- del to shut down hoster. When I open the playlist 1 again and played the same audio no sound coming out on my sound card, tried about 5 audio files on playlist with same result no sound, tried kma file it works, then tried my video files same no sound. Shut down playlist number 1 again. (2nd time) this time closed all open playlist. re-started hoster and open different plalist (3) with stll the same resullt, got panic checked my sound card with my Dj software sound were ok Check the audio files with dj software files ok, check video file with dj software, ok. took me about 30 minutes doing this back and forth with hoster software and dj software with same result on hoster. Finally, I shut down my computer. And restarted computer, open hoster again, open palylist 1, play file still no sound, play kma file play with sound. Decided to play file on edit screen, video file play ok. Decided to adjust fade start and end time to zero. Then went back to playlist screen and decide to play video file now this time it has sound. Tried everything on the playlist and seems everything back to normal. Weird thing. I Could not Duplicate the problem now but still some intermettently problem happens on hoster 4.31. 2 time it freezes 1 time it crashed hoster. I'm Lucky this just testin at home, not on my show.
I'm still using 3.4 because I could worked up to 4 playlist the same time playlist priority with the played song, the next if it happen on other playlist remian in background and soon I stop playlist that was still on it will take the screen. Just like non stop mode.
Anyway 4.31 will remain back up until it behaves normally. One time I used 4.21 when my main computer at the venue shut down because of dirt Luckilly it went down on slow day (thursday) and I used laptop with hoster 4.21 and boy it was slow. Cueing of songs takes some time. I notice 4.31 takes even longer. Just sharing the problem I encountered just for two days of testing 4.31.
I don't Post much here, but everyday I read most of the posts and problems reported

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

I don't know about using multiple copies of Hoster at once, but it sounds like that is what messed up your sound output for audio and video.
What operating system are you using?
Are your DirectX and Windows Media Player up to date? MTU change the versions for Hoster to use to the latest versions of those programs when they upgraded their compiler for the installation program.

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

Window 7 home premium 32 bit, DirectX 11 WMP 12. Ram 2 gb. That's why I'm just trying to find out if hoster 4.31 is better for my show or just stick to hoster 3.4. As of this this date I'm still using 3.4 because i could open multiple copy of hoster. Hoster 4.31 would not even behave close to 3.4 even all the most of features was not used. B/A off, Visualization Off, Marquee Off, I'm not even using search function. Just the instabuttons were used but not when a playlist was playing.
