Exclamation Key Change Problems

Hi All,

I have a terrible problem with Hoster when performing a key change.
If I leave the key in the original format everything works fine. However when doing a key change in either direction the music cuts in and out all the way through the song.

This only started after upgrading to the latest version of Hoster. It worked fine before that.

HELP & Thanks!

Joanie

Re: Key Change Problems

Joanie did you upgrade to 4.20 from the previous upgrade or from one farther back?
Have you tried putting in a key change before a songs starts and has it done the same or not?
Can you tell us what operating system and what type of computer you are on? Really need this to be able to try to help you.

Re: Key Change Problems

Hi Dale,
I upgraded from one farther back than the previous upgrade.
I am using a Dell Inspiron Laptop with Windows XP Pro.

I have been using this laptop for quite a while with no issues prior to the upgrade.

Re: Key Change Problems

Do you know how much memory and what speed your processor is?
What was the previous version of Hoster you were using?
What size is your Hard Drive and how much free space does it have?

Re: Key Change Problems

I have 2GB of RAM and an Intel processor T7250 @ 2.00GHz.
Free space on C:= 275GB
Free space on external = 271GB (this is where the songs are)
I'm going to guess the version I upgraded from was 4.1.2 or 4.1.4.

Seriously, I do not think this is a resource issue. Hoster worked just fine on the older version. After the upgrade the songs are distorted whenever a key + or - is selected. It matters not whether the key change is selected before or after the song begins.

Re: Key Change Problems

Now there is a new upgrade that fixes some more problems. It is 4.22. Don't know if it will fix this but hopefully will.
What operating system do you use (XP, Vista, Windows 7)?
It is possible to be a resource problem as you are adding more functions in the upgrade as well as changing the key which will add to memory use. Not saying it is, but all information helps to narrow down the problem. Before you upgrade to 4.22 be sure you go through the checklist again for your operating system.

Re: Key Change Problems

Are there any special exceptions I need to observe when upgrading from this version? On the last upgrade I needed to jump through a few hoops (uninstalling the previous version completely) to get it to install. It would be nice to just be able to download and run the newest version.

I will have another look at the system requirements.

As I stated above, I'm running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3.

Re: Key Change Problems

Please also be sure to read the XP upgrades page, shown in a panel during installation.

4.22 requires you upgrade your Microsoft DirectX and Windows Media Player, which we have avoided for many years. We simply could not this time.

Please also check your Windows Upgrades (Start button > All Programs > Windows Upgrades) and click CUSTOM. Don't make any suggested HARDWARE driver downloads from Microsoft, but if any appear, go to the manufacturer of that graphics card, network chip, optical drive, etc. and look for their latest drivers. Make all the Microsoft software upgrades.

I expect this has been caused by some upgrade not having bee done yet. It may have been released the day after you did your last upgrades.

Re: Key Change Problems

And yes now you want to "Upgrade" in the Install for Hoster instead of removing old and installing new. The older version is required to be on the computer for an upgrade to install.

Re: Key Change Problems

Thanks to admin for the info on needing to update DirectX and WMP.
That did the trick.
Thanks to Dale on all your assistance as well. If the recommendations to update those components are included in the "YES. I updated my system." checkbox part of the install, I must have overlooked those.
Running the 4.22 upgrade was straight-forward.

FYI - there was nothing in Windows Update that showed a need for DirectX updates. You need to run dxdiag from the run command. I went ahead and ran the end user latest package for DirectX from Microsoft and confirmed several new files were installed. I upgraded WMP to version 11, ran the rest of the subsequent Windows Updates, and power-cycled my PC.

All the songs now play correctly no matter how many key changes I make.
YAY!

Thank you for sticking with me through this process. I knew there was an answer. You guys are great.

Great!!!

I'm sure Dale is just as excited as I that we are on the right track on this "new" set of problems that can happen without updating DirectX and WMP.

Joanie, you're the trooper for sticking with us and following our suggestions. I wish everyone with a problem was so gracious as you.

Re: Key Change Problems

I am still using XP. Do I upgrade Direct X to 10 or 11?

Thanks,

Re: Key Change Problems

10, but I found it still shows at 9.0c just a different version number after it.
