Trouble with lyrics after upgrading to Window 7

Hi everyone,
Wanted to know if anyone has ran into this problem. I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Win 7 Home premium Tuesday March 30th. The 31st I reinstalled Hoster 4.20 and Microstudio and opened Hoster up to play some music on it to make sure everything was alright for this coming weekend, and when it started, the Chartbuster opening page had marks all over and when the lyrics came on they first looked alright then as the bars on top counted down, the letters and immediate vicinity turned black. As it was sweeping, and you could tell it was sweeping across the lyrics because of movement in the black areas, the Chartbuster page would appear but it was broken up with marks on it. On the second stanza it did the same thing except the lyrics did not appear, it was just black. I went to the manual to make sure all the changes were done correctly that you have to have before you install Hoster, and there were a few things I had to change, then I reinstalled Hoster, and still got the same results. Does anyone have any insight as to what I need to do to get this right before I have to play this Saturday?

Re: Trouble with lyrics after upgrading to Window 7

This is a graphics (video) issue and may be a bit more complicated.
What kind of computer (laptop or desktop)?
What kind of video card is in it? Video RAM?
When you did the change to Windows 7 did you also go to the Microsoft update web page and get all Custom updates from there for it (except for Hardware Updates)?
The list of changes you did from the manual, was it this list?

Re: Trouble with lyrics after upgrading to Window 7

DDouglas, I have a Gateway LX6810 with Intel Quad Core Q8200 2.34Ghz, 8Ghz ram, 64bit operating system desktop. I have a Nvidia GeForce GT120 video card with 128 bit memory interface, 4095MB total availiable graphics memory, 1024MB dedicated video memory, and 3071MB shared video memory. And yes, I went through everything on the page that you have to do to make Hoster function. One time a while ago, I upgraded the driver for the video card, and it did something similiar, and I rolled the driver back and it straightened it out. I tried to roll back the driver, but it didn't work, it said there were no other drivers to roll back to. Another thing that's perplexing me is my 2nd monitor has become #1 even though it's not my primary. My primary has Hoster on it and my desktop with the icons, and the 2nd monitor has just the Windows background without the icons the way it's supposed to be, but because the computer has named the 2nd monitor as "1" and my primary as "2", when i open Hoster up, the singers screen is on my primary and when I double click the singers screen, it expands in my primary monitor instead of my 2nd monitor. What I have to do is move the singers sceen to the 2nd monitor and resize it on that screen.

I have had the monitors switch on me like that once, but on an XP machine. If I remember correctly what I had to do was the following steps:
  1. Reset the displays in Hoster to default in Tools/Options. Puts it all on one monitor.
  2. Check the box to make #2 (computer monitor) the "Primary Monitor" this got my desktop back to right screen.
  3. Then disconnect the secondary and reboot the computer. That should recognize the computer monitor as #1.
  4. Shutdown and reconnect the secondary monitor.
  5. Restart and check to make sure the #2 monitor is activated and set for extended desktop.
That should get you back to normal for that problem.

For your video card go to Nvidia website and see if they have an older driver set (dated older) for that card. Install it and see if that fixes the graphics. The reason it shows no drivers to rollback to is you have only installed one driver under Windows 7.

Re: Trouble with lyrics after upgrading to Window 7

i read that if you upgraded to windows 7, you have to update you video card, since most of the comp. today have not standardized on what jack to use the 7- 4 pin jack, if youre using windows 7 run the windows 7 tv wizard,

Re: Trouble with lyrics after upgrading to Window 7

Ok, so I went to the website (Nvidia) and downloaded a few of their drivers for this card, the first few didn't clear the black. This morning I downloaded an older one and it worked. Also the screens are back to normal as far as primary and secondary even though I didn't do what DDouglas said to do. I had not gotten that far yet, I was trying to get the video issue solved first because I could live with me resizing the singers screen on the secondary monitor for 1 night, but not with the lyrics not showing up. So everything was looking good, and I played a song, but the lyrics were out of synch, so i went to "tools">"options" and the offset was at -0.1 which makes the lyrics highlight a little sooner. I changed it to -.03 to make it highlight sooner yet and went back to play a song and now there is no audio. The lyrics sweep and everything, just no music. I went back to options and put it back to -.01, and still no audio. I checked windows media player and played a song, and I do have audio there. Any suggestions? Thanx.

Check your sound settings with Hoster activated. From the task bar click on the speaker icon, when it opens do you see the Hoster Icon above a volume slider make sure it isn't muted or any of the other volume controls.

Re: Trouble with lyrics after upgrading to Window 7

Hey Guys,
Thanx for all the help and suggestions. And yes I did check to see if anything was muted. Either way, I finally got it working by redownloading Hoster and replacing the existing Hoster instead of just upgrading. I still had the problem with lyrics being behind the audio and it took me a couple of times to adjust the offset, but I think we've got it now. I had to set it to -0.5 which seems like alot to me but it's working so far. I need to test some more before I claim total success since I've only tried 3 songs, but they seem to work fine now. Now I'll put it through what I would do when I'm running a show for a few songs and hopefully the adjustments will stay and it'll run correctly. Thanx Again , You Guys are the BEST!!!
