Remove Silence Problem

Hoster 4.11 crashes every time I attempt to remove silence. I have followed all recommendations. I have 3 gig of ram, 1.83Ghz Dual Core IBM Thinkpad T60 & have 137 GB available on HD. It has done a few hundred silence removals and then refuses to do it again. I have re-installed Hoster and played around with Virtual Memory settings.chemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Help me please. I would love to have this feature working for me.

I ran into this with my audio files that I had imported. Since I keep them in a separate folder it was easy enough to remove them from the database by deleting the folder from the database build and rebuilding.
The problem you are having is most likely a corrupted song file.

Fixed. Thanks again mate. There were a few corrupted files that Hoster did not like. What I did was open up a window with my KMA files and viewed it in the detail view. I then pressed the Date Modified tab so it sorted it and I then could see which file did not get modified, stopping the whole process. I deleted that file and presto, the remove silence feature worked again.

Cheers

Stef

Glad you got it. I ran into a couple like that too and had to re-import them to get it to work.

Corrupt files

I can't locate the corrupt files in my system. I have a ton of music. These seem to be causing errrors when i run the "remove silence" button. Any odeas how to narrow the search down?

Is there any reason I should have .bin files in my Hoster file with all my .kma files?

No you do not need .BIN files in with the KMA files. For the Remove Silence Hoster only looks at the KMA files anyway so the .BIN files are not hurting anything being there.
Is the Remove Silence always stopping at the same point? In other words seince the first error, is it hanging now on the first song it is trying to process?
If this is the case, then open the Edit Songs Tool, select the No S-E button, then put a "*" in the Search box. Click Find. The first Song in the list is the problem file. Note what it is (Brand, DiskID, BookID etc) so you can re-import it, then delete it. Try running the Remove Silence again to see if it goes on.
I have also found that it won't work on any Audio files that you have imported because there is no video with it for it to set in sync with the audio.

None of the above. It goes by record number, something you don't see in Hoster but can see in Access.

I answered no they do not do it in order of any of the above items you listed. The order they are processed in is by Record Number. Each song you import into Hoster is assigned an automatic record number. This is a required item for Access database operation but does not show as a field in any view of Hoster. If you open the Songs Database file in Access one of the columns will be Record Number.

If you didn't get out of sync or skips by now (which I don't think RS will cause that) then I doubt any of the others will.

This solution worked for my first corrupted file. I processed over 30,00 files last night. woke up to a stuck computer today. Only 4500 or so left. This neat trick didn't work this time.

If the file is corrupt it shouldn't play....right?

Not necessarily. Did you note which one it was and delete it? Or if you don't want to get that drastic move it out of the folder to some place safe, rebuild the database and then go on with your processing.

Billy he may be having the sync problem because of the increased requirements for 4.10 -4.11. I find it hard to believe the RS is causing it though someone had one song (Sunfly I think) thet he had to adjust in Edit because RS was taking too much off the start and causing a sync problem, but just on that one song.

Probably means you have more than one that is corrupt. If the next one on the list is from the same disk maybe you want to remove all from that disk to a safe location, rebuild and try again.
