error writing kma file

I am trying to import songs from CB90225. Trac 1 imports ok but I get "error writing kma file" on all other tracs. I just upgraded to 4.09 and tried again with the same results. I have a Twinhead laptop and a plextor PX760x both of which I bought from MTU. I have had a lot of problems lately importing discs and even importing other peoples discs to the playlist. I have cleaned the plextor. What else can I Do?

What firmware version is on the Plextor drive?
Are you keeping the computer up to date (Microsoft updates)?
Is there any more information in the error message?
Is the drive getting full?

Firmware is the internal control program on the drive itself. To find out what version you have open Hoster and go to Tools/CD/DVD drives. Find the Plextor listed there and the last group of numbers at the end of the description is the version. If it isn't 1.07 then it is out of date and you will need to go to http://www.plextor.com/english/suppo...s/firm_760.htm and download that version and install it.

Is this happening only with that particular Chartbuster cd or is it happening all the time?

The last 3 numbers are 1.07.
This is happen a lot lately with a variety of discs, Chartbuster, All Star, Sound Choice are a few I remember. Also I have several singers who have thier own custom made discs and I have not been able to copy songs from them to my play list. A year ago I could download most everything. Lately almost nothing. I bought a 3 disc set of Tammy Wynette Chartbuster and downloaded disc 1 but could not download disc 2 or 3. I have a friend who has a HP pavillion slimline. She just bought Hoster Lite and I was able to download all three discs on her puter with the cdrw/dvd drive that came in her puter. Very frustating.
Any other Ideas other than buying a new one?
Thank you

I would say then that probably your drive is failing. I have both 716 and 760s all have finally failed on me and will not write or in many cases read discs. MTU has switched to selling NEC Optiarc drives because Plextor 's newer drives no longer support CDG though I am sure many will read them anyway.
In fact I am getting ready to order a new one from them because the two drives in my home machine will no longer read the SCDG discs (for conversion with another program).
So unfortunately that may be your only option.

Now what?

So I bought the new Nextstar DX from MTU. I hooked it up to try it. When I click on "import CD tracks" it locks up my puter. Control/alt/del will not even work to end task. I shut down, and tried 2 more times. Same thing.
I hooked up the old Plextor, clicked on "import CD tracks" and went right to the window, so I tried the new drive again and locked up again. Before you ask I did retest the new drive and enabeled it. Any ideas?
Thank you

Which version 4.09 are you running? If it isn't 4.09D then you need to upgrade to that.
Does the drive show up in CD\DVD Default drives? And does it show as good? Is it set as the read drive?
Is this an external or internal drive?
Can you read a disc in it (the directory) through Windows Explorer?

I have 4.09d. This is an external drive. MTU said the drive they are using in thier laptop will not fit in mine(Twinhead that I bought from them). I can play the Chartbusters CB90225 in windows explorer (music only). What else do I need to do?
Thank you

Try opening Hoster. Then open Task Manager so you can watch to see what is going on. Set up Task Manager to the Processes Tab, click on header "CPU Time" twice. You should then see "System Idle Process at the top of the list.
Now set up Hoster to import the disc. Look at the Task Manager and see how much processor time (CPU column) Hoster.exe is using. This will be anywhere from 00 - 99. Hoster should not be going over 30 - 40%.

What location is the Save To sending your files to?
When did you buy this laptop from MTU?
How much RAM does it have?
What Anti-virus program are you running on this computer?
When you say you are keeping the computer up-to-date is this through Auto Updates or are you going to the Microsoft Updates web site and doing the Custom updates?

Dufgolfer,
Shoot me and email at support at mtu.com. I will then try to find a time to get up with you to try to come into your computer. If you are around today, I could do it today.

Let me know, this might be something that we need to look deeper into with the programmer.

Bryan from MTU support also responded and i have e-mailed him.
I am not real puter savy and I can't find a task manager.
My songs are saved to my external hard drive if that is your question.
I bought the laptop in March 2006. I had trouble downloading songs and didn't use it for the first year and half.
Due to Updating to 4.09 when it was available I added ram. I now have 1g.
Per MTU instructions I use custom updates.
I use this puter strictly for karaoke and only go online to MTU. Therefore I have no virus protection.
Thank you
Dufgolfer

Be sure that your USB optical drive cable is good.

If you are using an external hard drive, make sure you can access files on it also.

You can do both of these tests using Windows explorer and access either drive, one at a time.

To run "Task Manager", do the 3-finger salute: Ctrl+Alt+Delete all at the same time.
