We started with it from the beginning, built the table, queries and reports from scratch.
That said you can copy the file songs.mdb (don't work directly on the original file) then open it in Access. From there you can add queries and reports.

I didn't vote on this poll because there was not an option that fit.

I used KJ Pro in the past before I purchased Hoster.
I have used Excel for other purposes and did consider using it for my songbooks.

For my purposes the Hoster Songbook is just a lot simpler.

So if there was an option that said Hoster Songbook is better for your purposes than any other program that you've used I would have place my vote there

I have KJPro, but I really like the songbook feature in Hoster. I convert the output file to an SQL database and post it on my web site. My customers can create search criteria and make their own songbooks rather than go thru mine.

I used KJ Pro for a long time prior to buying Hoster. With most processes, you have to be aware of all sorts of shortcomings with each process. (I don't want to use "problem" as a word in this application) With KJ Pro, Hoster and most Song book creators, there is always going to be necessary changes, such as typos, Song title inconsistencies, and other errors. I spend quite a bit of time correcting the database for Hoster, as I did with KJ Pro, however, I do like the format and flexibility with the Hoster songbook creator, such as porting the list to a SQL db or Word or even PDF.

Don't have a lot of experience with other programs but I found the Hoster Songbook to work well for my level of computer expertise (very little)

Did I see that one of the features in Version 4 was the ability to delete duplicates in the songbook?

In Hoster 4 we have the ability to prevent any song from showing up in the songbook. You don't delete the duplicate using the songbook, you just select it so it won't show up when you print your books.

I Hope This Helps.

Select "Hide" in the Edit Songs function for the duplicates (to further explain your answer Jim).

I 've got quite a lot of songs in my database and would have to have several sessions selecting the duplicates I didn't want in my book. Is there anyway I can save my work until I complete the task

Eric if you use the Edit Songs in Hoster your work is saved as you go and the changes are permanent. You can either hide them or delete them from there. If you use Access to make the changes then it isn't permanent and will dissapear next time you do a rebuild or add to the database.

Never admit to being old, coz as soon as you do, then you are? And if you don't, then you are not.

Converting lazer discs to mpegs

I transfered my laser discs to mpeg 2 by recording off my laser player onto a recordable dvd player using dvdrw. I used rw's so you can the edit the disc putting chapters where the tracks would start. By now you have backed up the laser disc onto dvd. Next i used a sony vaio and DV gate software ,(DV gate free on vaio)to import them to a hard drive, I tried a lot of software to do this but the sony DV Gate reads VOB files and automaticly creates a mpeg file at each chapter point and will allow atomatic numbering eg. 301-A-01, 02,03 etc The only problem i had was in the uk we can only get (at the time) pal region recorders. Now the pause screen on the laser disc player is pal60 and the playback is ntsc so the disc recorder wold not record the two formats together. I tried several dvd recorders to do this as pal 60 is not true pal and alot of recorders would just record a rolling picture. I used a phillips dvd recorder in the end, as it was the most reliable. This may not be a problem in America as it's all ntsc. Takes along time though but three or four discs a night whilst doing something else soon goes by. The other thing to considure is file size 2500 lazer tracks Mpeg 2 good quality is 400 gig. Hoster 4.10 will allow you to import the tracks, but its just as easy to search using the current player. Tried to convert to divx just takes too long. Hope this helps.

Hi ddouglass

I like access too and find it helps me clean up hoster database issues quickly.

As for the hoster song book I don't use it at all.
Main reason not setup to print by Disc ID only by book ID

When singers want a song in SoundChoice or ChartBuster ver. they like to see it listed in the book that way SC2535-05 CB90045-09, mush easier to remember then Book ID 11205939 or 396943824.

I use Music Book Dlx find it very useful, accurate and easy to use takes care of dup's and has many features not availible in other song book programs.

Would be nice if Hoster would allow other database to be used for import.

Joe....

I hope you don 't have to ever Rebuild or Add your Database, because every change you make in Access will disappear. I use Access to look at the Songs Database and to use it as my basis for printing my books and am trying to use it to print my Singers lists from that database, though I have not been completely successful with that yet.

Joe, when was the last time you looked at the Songbook Creator. You can have it use either the BookID or the DiskID. You might want to check it out.

Started with KJPro, when I got hoster I went with it. I found it to be for me not the right thing. Went back to KJPro.

I am numberless, and do not list brand id.

Double col, and no numbers does make my books smaller and faster to locate for folks looking.

I like KJ pro for the reasons stated above. I used KJPro when i was doing karaoke with a player, only program worth a durn at that time. Outdoor yard parties, pool parties, and biker rallies i still take my JVC, and old backup disc to use. So the Hoster books would do me little good actually.

So i have just stayed with KJ Pro. I keep the duplicate titles in, i tried leaving them out, and everyone drove me nuts asking what lable the song was on.

Last count i had 9 D.I.V.O.R.C.E. recordings on different lables.
