Do songs retain Do not show in Songbook when changing computers
I am getting ready to upgrade desktop computers and going to Windows 10. My old computer was a Dell 755 Windows 7. I use a larger secondary drive to story the Karaoke and music files on. If I transfer the 2nd drive to the New Dell 3847, put the secondary drive in and rebuild the database will the songs retain the "Do Not Show In Songbook" so I do not have to go through 90,000+ songs to make sure that only one listing shows for each song title. Any guidance would be appreciated

Re: Do songs retain Do not show in Songbook when changing computers
Providing you originally entered that information via Hosters own edit dialog that info will be written into the kmh or kma header file.
So rebuilding the database will retain that info. But if you used Access database to enter the info in the first place then rebuilding the database will probably lose any edits you made. Later versions of Hoster have a Backup/Restore feature, if yours has that it is available from the Help menu. If you create the backup and save to a portable device then after installing Hoster on your new computer use the Restore feature from that and it will set that up as a clone of your original without needing to rebuild database. It doesn't copy the music files just all the settings, singers and songs databases & registry files.

Re: Do songs retain Do not show in Songbook when changing computers
I found and made a back up saved to a usb stick. So If I move the Hoster program and the Second HD to the new machine and run the restore I will not need to build the database. I did use the Hoster program to build the songs that show, did not use access.
Thanks for the response |

Re: Do songs retain Do not show in Songbook when changing computers
After using the Restore Hoster will look for your music files in the same location as they were on the original computer. If they were on an external drive with a volume letter of say "E" then it will look for them on E drive on new computer. If you load all the music files onto your "C" drive then it will be necessary to rebuild.
Which would probably mean clearing the existing list of folders first. How I would do that is open the Tools/Hoster Datafolder, then close Hoster but keep the data folder open, delete the "HosterInfoIndexed.ini" file then close the data folder. Now open Hoster, go to the rebuild dialog, you should now have an empty list of folders, choose rebuild which will build an empty database. Now use the Add Folder or Add Folders/Sub Folders buttons pointing it to your new location, it will then build the new database as you add the folders.
