![]() I have quite a large number of duplicate KMA, KMH and VCD file entries in my external hard drive. Is it better to "merge" these entries using the tool provided or locate and delete these entires which is a laborious, time consuming exercise?

Re: Duplicate file entries
Can you state which version of Hoster you are using ?
Are these files that after rebuilding the database returned duplicate book id message or are they just duplicated song title artist entries ? If they are as a result of duplicated book ids you can try the merge tool but I will warn you this could mess with your printed songbook if you use Book id as a reference #. If they are just duplicated title artist entries the merge feature won't work on them and you would have to manually sort them in the edit dialog either deleting them or marking them as not to be printed in songbook.

Re: Duplicate file entries
I have a question about merging database files my self.
After doing a merge of two databases and going through the song files and deleting duplicates, using hoster 5.10, can you take the two seperate directories you merged and combine them into one directory? I now have two directories on my hard drive with kma files in them and would like to know if they can be copied together into one. also, what are the Quarentined files for (and why are there so many of them)? Re: Duplicate file entries
The quarantine folder is were it moves your files to if they are faulty or duplicated files.
There would be so many of them in your case because there would have been a lot of duplicated book ids which is what I was trying to explain to you before. Have you tried merging them yet ? If you have and there are still a lot of files in the quarantine folder they could be faulty, you could test some of them and see if they play from the K-oke button, if they do copy them back to their original folder and see if it adds them next time round. You can move them all into one directory afterwards, then you will have to rebuild the database again so that Hoster knows where they are.

Re: Duplicate file entries
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have merged them into the program and then removed all the duplicates. (I don't like to keep duplicate songs in my database, gives the impression of having a huge number of songs when you really don't, and makes the songbooks overly large.) I was hoping that I could copy them into one folder. it keeps life simpler.
Thanks, Chuck |
