Error

Have been a long time user. Ever since 5.09 and 5.10 I have had the following problem. I will use Hoster with no problem. But then maybe a day later will go to open up and it will not run. Sometimes it's no more than shutting down Hoster for a hour. When I try to start it again I get the Red ERROR. My songs are on my computer so there is no mistake as to which drive. I have tried re-building the data base. I have tried deleting and re-running build data base. And Hoster will still not play songs. I ONLY get the RED ERROR. The only way that I can make it work is to completely delete Hoster and re install.

I should say that the RED ERROR happens when I try to play the song.

Any ideas as to what's going on?

Thanks,
Kelly

Re: Error

Thanks for the reply Roy. I have them both on the internal and external. This problem happens regardless. As I said. been Hoster user for along time and checking proper drive location is always my first "check." Today it has happened again and am trying to get it to play songs on the computer itself. Been a no go. Trying to figure out the culprit without having to delete and reinstall.

Re: Error

I can't think what is going on hear but as you say your songs are on your computer, are they on the c:drive or in another partition or another internal drive ?

Re: Error

On the c: drive. When working everything is fine. It is only after I have quit using Hoster and shut it down. Sometimes there is no problem but many time upon bring it back up it just won't play. I'm at a lost. It seems to me that a particular file must be getting corrupted upon shutting Hoster down. For as I said, the only thing that corrects it, is to completely remove all traces of Hoster off my computer and then re-install.

Re: Error

If you open the Tools Menu/Build database dialog, in the bottom left payne where it should show a list of all the follders that your indexing, does that list disappear when this happens or is the list ever empty ?

If they are there are they displaying the correct paths ?
And if you highlight one do you see the contents in the right hand payne ?

Re: Error

Everything is a it should be. Correct folder and location of songs shows up on the left and when highlighted; songs show up in window on right. I even told it to rescan folder. Found the correct number of songs. Still get ERROR in status when trying to play song.

List is never empty. Everything as I said is there.

Re: Error

Are these just songs loaded from a previous playlist ?

What happens if you try searching for a song, load it, does it play then ?

Re: Error

No play list. Just songs from the data base. As yes if I punch in a number; it finds the song and displays it. Just won't play the song.

Might add I get the same ERROR if I try to play from my plain audio files.

Re: Error

OK,...Out of the blue I tried play a song again and it now works. I am not having any other computer problems Have NO idea why it just now worked. I haven't done anything since my last post.

Next time this happens I will reboot shut down the computer and see if it helps. Thanks for the help though Roy. I post back in with any other ideas or next time I'm dealing with it.

Re: Error

Weird

When you re-installed did you try ticking the box to clear all settings that appears in one of the screens ? This is supposed to clear the Hoster registry that may have an effect on something although just to warn you in doing so you will probably lose all your instabuttons but it wont affect singers lists or other saved data.

Might be worth a try if the problem continues.

Re: Error

I have found that when re-installing which normally is what I have had to do; I found I had to make sure that NO previous settings are saved. If I did, it would not work. Like i said it's as though all traces of Hoster have to be gone or the reinstall won't work.

Re: Error

I know you said no playlists but I'm wondering still if it has anything to do with the Project path that you don't see as it is set in the registry.
When you open Hoster right at the very top above the file menu is a Hoster icon with the Project path name, default is "def0xx.hst". but it could be anything with a .hst extension.
If this has become corrupted in the registry it may have something to do with the problem.
So note the name for this, Now from the file menu select "Save AS" in the folder that opens, Default path should be "C:\ProgramData\mtu.com\Hoster" do you see that same folder name ?

If so select it so that it appears in the file name window then save, if you selected the name from the list it will bring up a box saying already exists do you want to replace, select yes. This will reset the registry for this path which is your current playlist.
If you don't see that file name in the window then type one in and save it anyway.
Don't know if this will help but may be worth a try.

Re: Error

Tried it Roy. No go. It finally stopped on me again the other day. Tried everything I could think of and finally had to delete and re-install. Immediately after re-installing I made a back up copy of the other files. Next time it gives me that red ERROR I'm going to experiment with replacing the files to see if I can narrow down the problem. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,

Kelly

Re: Error

Just thought I'd let you know, another user had a problem with this red playlist error and it turned out to be the sound card.
