what computer laptop works for you ?

Ok folks i want a recommendation for a laptop that will unequivocally work for hoster right out of the box ( after doing all the updates and required changes) please do no suggest a lenovo as i have already wasted 1000.00 dollars on that fiasco. i want one that works with hoster no problems no fussing. something you actualy have used and you know works i need the exact model number and particulars (specs) even where you bought it from if you can tell me. I thank you all in advance.

Rob,

You may get quite a few different replys to the above question.

I went through some of the same challenges you are having with your laptop but through a lot of work the perfromance is flawless now (see my signature block for my particular computer).

If I had it to do all over again (buy a new laptop that is) I would visit MTU's site and seriously consider one of the 2 different laptops MTU offers with Hoster already installed!

Do you claim your equipment as a Business Expense?

The laptop that I use allowed me to pay less in income taxes as I use is only for business and deducted it.

Every dime you get back on taxes or taxes you don't have to pay because you deducted the laptop as a business expense is almost like getting the laptop on sale.

You might want to ask this under "Singers and Hosts Wisdom", as this question has nothing to do with Hoster problems.

Everyone has their own preferences. I personally like HP. The specs are different on every laptop. It woud be almost impossible for you to find a laptop with everything exactly the same as someone else's. I have been using my HP with Vista for over 6 years and many people had problems with AMD processors & yet some have no problems at all. It took a long time for me to get mine to work flawlessly, but now it does. The other thing I could use is more RAM. Also, not all CDRoms will play CDG files even if they say they will (that's why you're hearing CLICKS). Many of us use a USB drive. I purchased my last one from MTU.

From your reports, it sounds to me like you made some changes & then later made others. This can confuse your computer. When that happens, sometimes a Registry Cleaner will solve those problems. Have you tried that, after all the changes you made?

Since your computer is still new, personally I would recommend doing a complete System Restore back to the way it was out of the box. THEN, do all your updates, slowly one at a time. This will take several hours. If you get in a hurry & miss one, or do it "out of order" or even put in something you don't need, again your computer will be confused. Updating a new computer with all the Microsoft updates, plus the required Video codecs, AND turning OFF everything that should not be running in the background (following MTU's recommendations), will easily take 8 hours or more. THEN & ONLY THEN should you install Hoster.

I hope this helps.
P.S. If you have been using Hoster for 10 years, then you should already know the answer to your question....... which computer has worked for you in the past?????

Re: what computer laptop works for you ?

Well it isn't a new computer, i've been using my HP Pavillion dv6700 out of the box (at least 5 years now) with Vista 64 bit and never had an issue.

Re: what computer laptop works for you ?

I'm using a HP Pavilion dv7-6187cl, and after doing all the changes, it works like a charm. It has Windows 7 service pack 1, Intel Core i7-2630QM @2GHz & 8GB of memory.

Re: what computer laptop works for you ?

Thanks everyone i was looking for opinions and suggestions and most of you were very helpful I'd like to single out roy and mr. douglas as being exceptionaly helpful. Oh and Skybird I did not need the smart remark, but I appreciate the sarcasm. It is extremely helpful on a community board to have someone get their little digs in when a person is sincerely asking for help. Thank you so much for that useful tidbit. I was asking simply because I was going from an 5 year old XP based laptop to the much newer windows 7 system and I wished to gather useful opinions from folks that were using the new windows 7 based systems. I wanted to learn from others experience. I have gotten things all straightened out now and it is working well. Hoster does seem to have a glitch that trew me for a loop when it tested the new cd rom drive and said it was fine when in fact it was not fine. I purchased a drive from MTU and viola, everything suddenly worked as it should. once again thanks to all of you folks that gave info. I do sincerely appreciate it and hope to return the favor when ever I can be of help

I have no idea what you are referring to. I re-read everything I wrote & thought I was being very nice & trying to be as helpful as I could be and give you as much detail as possible. This was in response to your other posts (not just this one) when you were having so much trouble. Sorry you took it the wrong way, but glad you got everything working.
