Data Security
Ok, here goes. I am considering sending someone out to do a show for me. I have a dell laptop and a lacie 500 gig external harddrive. I have worked very hard and spent a lot of money to get what I have, and in my area it is pretty much tops. I am trying to figure out how to let someone do a show for me, while at the same time securing my data on the harddrive from copying. Is there a program that will encrypt but still allow access with my karaoke programs. Or is there a program that will only allow access to a folder by certain programs. In other words, Hoster can access folder and maybe sax n dotty, but they could not copy from my harddrive to theirs. Any ideas would be appreciated, along with how it works. Thanks again

We have a way working to lock your KMA files to only play on the computers you enabled them for. However, I can't imagine any way to allow other non-MTU players to access these songs also... or why you would want to? Just wondering what would you be willing to pay for this option?
There have been some discussions in these Forums on password protecting your system, and also on assigning your hired guns a USER name they can play songs in, but not copy them to another drive. I expect some of our other users may have some suggestions here. |

Thanks for your answer
I had a lot of problems importing my zip files into hoster, even after I rezipped the to a normal compression, and I have over 57,000 songs. I use another program for the rest that I won't mention, and then I have about 2,000 songs that are in the multiplex format that no other program will handle, so I use hoster for that, and I also use hoster to import any new cd's I buy. I am not so worried about the stuff that is in Hoster as I am the 57,000 that are on the hardrive. Also, the hoster stuff is on my laptop, where as the 57,000 are on a 500 gig external. If someone had a program or wrote a program to do that I would certainly pay for it. The programmer for roxbox sent me a program that would encrypt the first bytes of every zip file so that if anyone copied it, it would be useless to them, but I had to use his program which i really don't like. that program also could do it two ways. Either it would encrypt it to the drive, or it would link it to the laptop so that noone could use them without the laptop. Anyway, any help would be appreciated. It took me 12 years to accumulate what I have and would hate to see someone in my area take it from me and then be able to compete with me. Thnanks for your help

Just out of curiosity, does that program also unencrypt those files too? And had you encrypted them prior to trying to import them to Hoster?

Hey douglas
Not sure if it does or not. But because it could only be used with his karaoke program I decided not to use it. So I don't know. I have had hoster for two years and it is a great program. My importing problems were about a year and a half ago with an older version of hoster. I think it has been fixed now. It had to do with the compression of the zips or something. Anyhoooow, i use two different programs for my karaoke, just looking for a way to protect my data on the external drive so it cannot be copied to another drive, or if it is, it is useless. They are not kma's they are zip files. It is really not a question for the hoster program, but I am a registered user and thought maybe someone would know. Thanks for any input.

I remember the problem. Have you tried to import them since upgrading?
