CDao exception in 3.310

I just upgraded from 3.303.

Nothing has been changed in my system. But I now get this error message 3 times before Hoster opens and 3 times when I go to import HD files.

Hoster crashes when I try to start an import.

The error msgbox says:

Error: CDao_Exception

SCODE_CODE = 340
SCODE_FACILITY = 4
SCODE_SEVERITY = 1
ResultFromScode = -2147221164

I have installed .net framework 2.0

Everything was running fine in 3.303, I was importing some files and decided to upgrade now to give myself a few days before the next show to make sure I don't have any problems.

Make sure you restart your computer after installing Hoster 3.310. There are codes that won't activate until Windows reboots.

Yep, did that twice.
Hoster installer does a reboot anyway and I rebooted after loading the framework.

Just tried yet again for fun and still getting the same errors.

Did you install Hoster first or Net Frame 2.0? If you did Hoster first then try uninstalling Hoster and re-installing. Be sure to reboot both times if the install doesn't call it.

Admin - this is an error associated with/by the ODBC drivers from Microsoft for data access by Excel, Access, etc. Since the database files are Access 97 looks like that is the problem area.

Dale, I'll give that a go tonight.

I have Office 97 running on that laptop as I don't want to upgrade it. The laptop is only 6 months old and everything had been working fine before.

I had installed 3.310 first, then got the error and downloaded framework 2.0 still getting the same error.

I'll do a clean install framework first tonight.

I thought I'd better ask before I do it.

If I uninstall Hoster, will I lose the database and all the KMA files I've created?

I don't think I could stomach another 4 days importing.

The CDAO items, are what alllows Hoster to access the Access database. So this is why you are getting the error when starting Hoster and then also when you try to import.

Did you try reinstalling Hoster, using Upgrade? This should fix this problem

Let me know what you find.

Still no luck.

I uninstalled everything, rebooted, loaded framework 2.0, rebooted, installed 3.310, exactly the same error message.

I uninstalled 3.310, loaded 3.303 and things are running.

I am running Office 97 on this machine. Very little else as it's my Karaoke and show machine.

Bryan,
Even though the database files are Access 97 versions could something in the ODBC call part of the program have changed due to the upgrading to newer Visual Studio for compiling? This should be an isolated problem since very few people still use Office 97.

Dave,
You might check with Microsoft web site to see if they have updated ODBC compatible with Office 97. I can't help wondering since you say this is your show machine what you use Office 97 for?

I run 97 on my main machine so it's juct for compatiblity between machines.

I often find I have free time before a show and I'll work on routines for a mindreading show or write up some new trivia questions.

Framework doesn't present any dialogs during install asking if I want to keep older files, so I must assume that it is either overwriting files or there are no conflicts.

I've tried searching the MSDN site but all I get are blank pages.

Try this link for updates. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/of...226191033.aspx If the "aspx part will not open remove the last section an click on the link for updates.

If you aren't use the service release 2b I would suggest installing it first, then the ODBC Driver update.

Just so we are on the same page here what Windows version are you using?

I'll do that Dale.

I'm running XP home SP 2.

I have installed SR1, but SR2 will not install as it says I have multiple version of 97 running. This is not the case. Perhaps it is the driver files from Hoster. So I'll uninstall Hoster again, uninstall office and start from scratch with both. But I won't do this for a couple of days as I have a gig tomorrow night and I don't want to be testing software during the show.

I'll report back on how things go.

Thanks,
Dave Everett

Just had a chance to do a clean install.

I removed framework, hoster and Office 97 ffrom my computer and rebooted.

Installed framework 2.0
rebooted
installed Hoster 3.310
rebooted.

I get exactly the same error message.

What else can I do?

I'm not in a position to reformat the hard drive, surely I don't need to do that to run Hoster?

No. I was under the impression that if I did, I'd have to reinstall every song in my system. This would take 5 days to do.

i always store my kma's in a different folder not the MTU (hoster) folder.

i hope you have made a back up copy of your kma's. get an external hard drive and drag and drop em into it.

Uninstalled 3.303
deleted Hoster directories
installed 3.310
Exactly the same error message as I've had all along
I tried to rebuild the database by pointing to the hoster director on the removable drive, no go.

This is very frustrating, if I can't get this resolved I will never be able to install fixes and upgrades.

I'll go back to 3.303 and wait for the MTU tech to get back from holidays.

Since Hoster 3.303 works fine I can't see how reformatting would help.

Also I would lose all the work I have done. I use this laptop for live performances as well.

Anyway, in the end 3.303 work fine, so if there is a problem it isn't directly Hoster related, but due to the new database.

Hoster 3.310 starts, and looks like it would work, except I can't read or build a database. Hardly a disk format problem
