Exclamation Really REALLY slow sweep time! HELP!

So all caught up in the buzz of running karaoke from a laptop after seeing it work at my former job and how well it has run for them, I decided to jump right in.

Not needing a songbook (I already have one) I downloaded, installed and registered Hoster Lite (the latest version). I imported a couple hundred tracks, and planned on testing it Saturday night at a private party with my discs playing backup.

Regularly, the song sweep time fell FAR behind the lyrics. On a single page, with no other action, it was perfectly on time. But once any kind of sweeping or new graphics appear, it was woeful at best. Knowing the song completely by memory was the only way to sing the songs. This was consistent over about ten songs before I shut the computer down and resorted to discs. I'm a bit dissolutioned because my system meets the requirements. Sometimes the music was over a full two minutes before the lyrics were done.

Here's what I'm running:
Sony VAIO Notebook
PIII 1GHz
256MB Ram
16MB VRam
Windows 2000 SP4
Single-video but with optional monitor-out, which I used.

Here's what I tried:
Closing out all unnecessary processes (yes I know which are which)
Increased virtual memory manually.
Reconfigured startup processes and non-microsoft system services.
Reboot
Ugh.

Ultimately, since I do this on the side, and rarely for any kind of REAL money, I decided not to buy the full hoster program. However, if I can't use the program at all, it was like flushing $90 down the toilet. I don't need a refund (nor do I expect I would receive one) but I'd like to know if I can receive another registration code to install Hoster Lite on my desktop system. Even though it's much more cumbersome than my notebook, it's still easier than hauling around 500 CDs.

What version of DIRECTX are you running? Hoster Lite requires version 9.0 or later.

You can check this by clicking START, then click RUN.

In the dialog box type in DXDIAG, then click OK.

Near the bottom of the first page that loads, it will say which version of DIRECTX is installed.

If not 9.0 or later, then go to the Microsoft website and download the latest version of DIRECTX for your operating system.

Hope this gets it for you.

I'll try that when I get home. I really hope that's all it is. I'd rather kick myself for not checking that than have to haul my 65 lb desktop monster around. Out of curiosity's sake, if that's not the case, is there anything else you can suggest for me to try at the same time as that? Or in the case that everything is "perfect" but still not working properly, is the concept of transferring registration to another 'puter out of the question?

Well, I'm home and DirectX version is 9.0c. Anything else?

Let's try reducing the sound hardware accellerators and see if that will get the audio and video in sync.

Click the START, RUN; ...DXDIAG should be showing.

If so, click OK.

If not, click the arrow for the pull down menu and select it, then OK.

At the top of the page click the SOUND 1 tab.

This should be your sound card.

Midway down the page there should be a slider marked HARDWARE SOUND ACCELLERATION LEVEL.

As bad off as your sync is, I'd move that slider all the way to the left.

If that's an overkill you can always go back in and move it a notch back to the right.

Close that out and see if that gets it.

Regarding your other pc, MTU permits installing on another pc for backup purposes only. Use your same doenload link and installation code. be sure to be connected to the internet when you do it.

Increase your system RAM to 512MB.

Hoster Lite and Hoster normally require less than 2% CPU time on any operations. Your Windows doesn't have enough memory to run itself in.
